“Versatility”
The HR*soprano mouthpiece is a round chamber mouthpiece which provides a round sound in contrast to a more focused sound which a square chamber provides. This allows the HR* to sound very pretty and the medium chamber allows the piece to have very good projection when pushed.
Players who now or in the past have played Meyer, Otto Link, Bari, Vandoren, Yanigisawa, or any of the straight ahead hard rubber Jazz mouthpieces out there will be sure to love The JodyJazz HR*. The differences come from our particular facing curve, the exact size and shape of the chamber and our commitment to quality control.
I have found that many players who have been playing a hard rubbersoprano sax mouthpiece for many years are in need of a replacement ( due to waer and tear) and do not know where to turn. Special Notes on The HR* Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece
Expect the JodyJazz HR* tenor sax mouthpiece to play just slightly brighter than traditional Otto Links and Meyers. This is due to the slightly smaller chamber. Many different sounds are possible on the JodyJazz HR* hard rubber tenor mouthpieces. For example: For Classical playing try our C* or 5* model with a relatively hard reed. For a sound similar to Stan Getz use a HR* 5*, 6* or 7 with a harder reed than you might normally use. Play softly and you will hear that beautiful sound with a hint of air it. For a sound more like Sonny Rollins us a 6*, 7*, or 8* with a softer reed to get that nice jazzy buzz in the sound. ( These are just the broadest suggestions. The real answer about sound is for you to experiment and find out what works for you.)

Exquisite sound, Super comfortable and Easy to play
I have used a Meyer 5 mouthpiece on my alto sax and a few years ago I started the search for a mouthpiece for my tenor saxophone. I tried various brands until a teacher recommended me to use a combination similar to my alto saxophone and recommended the JodyJazz HR*.
I have been playing the HR* Tenor for 2 years now and although I have a lot to discover about this mouthpiece, I am very happy with it. It makes playing a pleasure.

"Great mouthpiece! I'm a beginner player and have moved to a D'Addario Select Jazz 6M, which I found to be really challenging to play on. Moved to Jody Jazz HR* Tenor 5* and am loving how it sounds, feels and plays. This particular tip opening is great as your next mouthpiece after the standard Yamaha 4/5C, however I'm not sure if I would be moving up any time soon because I really like all aspects of it."

The More Expensive, The Better?
I used to think like that until I get my hand on the HR* Tenor 8.
And it was not far from truth.
I played saxophone in middle and high school before switched to bassoon.
Went to college with it and play exclusively for 6 years, before I pick up a second hand Yamaha tenor from a shop nearby.
It came with Yamaha 4c which I don't like much.
Then I decided to pick whatever upgrade options they have.
And fortunately, it was Jody's piece.
The moment I blow into it, I'm struck.
"This is MY sound" I thought.
It was truly a very bizarre experience for me.
These past 6 years, I have some opportunities to coach some kids to play saxophone.
Every time I play theirs, I only feel like 'I still can make a sound out of it' nothing more than that.
Not until I own mine.
Think about it, a guy who play bassoon for 6 years straight, pick up a sax, blow into it and immediately found his own sound.
That's how amazing this JodyJazz HR* is.
Like many others reviews say, JodyJazz HR* is very free blowing, easy to project and it is actually quite dark.
I don't know about you guys but with little experience I have with musical equipment, I feel like I could stick with this piece and I'll be fine for life.
Trying new stuff and exploring new possibilities is fun, I totally agree.
But I don't want to buy thing that I'm not going to use just for the sake of collecting.
In my opinion, JodyJazz HR* truly offer the best value for money compare to others.
But right now I'm looking for something more, a bit more darker and fuller.
Maybe I'll try the HR Custom Dark soon.

P.S. In case you curious, I play a good old Yamaha YTS-24II tenor. It is a YTS-23 with high F#, upgrade mechanisms and gold lacquered all over.
Nothing fancy but I practice everyday and very happy with it.
