Jesse Serrano, II on the Jet Tenor 7

"Though I have been playing for 40 years, I have never stepped out and really invested in my horns. As a family of meager means, I was blessed with finding an old King Sax in a shed behind our house, which is likely the only way I was able to get a musical instrument. I don't know that I even knew what a sax was, but my Mom put about $80 into it and I learned how to make noise, played some scales and the rest is history for me.

I have always been intimidated by "Real" sax players who were taught their instrument and understand Music Theory (still working on that ) and when I hear them play I feel like should just sell my horns and stick to vocals as they are so AMAZING it makes my playing sound like a flock of geese! Then came Jay Metcalf at Better Sax on Youtube and it was easy to learn without being embarrassed by what I did not know. I was inspired when he extolled the consistency of Jody Jazz Mouthpieces. That felt like something I could invest in with confidence.

Even though I have been blessed and have the money to spend now, it is still not easy to let go of dollars for my hobbies, especially for something I may not like. I travel for a living and cannot play nearly as often as I like, so I don't get the use out of my horns that Pros do. I finally decided to go for it, as my $5 Tenor mouthpiece just wasn't cutting it in the Horn Band I have stepped in to. I went on the JJ website and was surprised to learn I could try several mouthpieces and return those that did not work for me. Even more important.. Jody himself responded to my questions and made recommendations even beyond the "6 Questions". There was no condescension or judgement, just a sincere expression of helping me make a decision that would maximize my experience. The fact that he had $600+ mouthpieces and under $200.. all premium quality meant he understands not all of us are making a career, as much as we would like!

I cannot express how much that meant to a Sax Hack like me to have one of the premier players in the world and the Developer of these incredible treasures for the Sax Community to take out time to help me make a choice that he felt would work for me. The Jet 7 has made a huge difference in my Tenor and I am getting one for my Alto as well. Someday I hope to upgrade my Bari as well.
