Best MP Ever

"It's the best mouthpiece I've ever played or owned. I've had several Selmers. Rousseau, Rascher, Open Sky 2 for Soprano, a bunch of metal mouthpieces, all the Ricos, the good Yamahas, Vandoren V16, THIS is the best one. I went from sounding like a really good kid, to sounding closer to pro - right out of the box. The tone is amazing. Volume is as loud or as quiet as I want. High notes are the best ever. And tough mid range stuff sounds like my fav pro players. Perfect."

The single best baritone mouthpiece

"The single best baritone mouthpiece I have played on. Not only do I get the buttery sound from the 40s-60s, but I also have enough volume to be heard in a big band. Couple this with the HR* for solo and combo work, and you have an excellent one-two punch."

Awesome mouthpiece!

Love the Custom Dark HR. My SA 80 tenor blows freely from the bottom up to the altissimo range, producing a soft airy Stan Getz sound or a classical pure tone, as well as a growl or rasp. I'm using a #2 Legere Premium synthetic reed with the power ring ligature. It gives me lots of control, which I attribute to the large bore and wide open tip. This setup works well for me and makes my horn addictive to play.

No Honeymoon needed

"Thanks to Jody Espina and his quality control. I studied the HR* CUSTOM DARK mouthpiece via YouTube and a couple other internet sites for a few weeks. Just got this 7 in today and without question it’s exactly what I was expecting. It’s now married to my 50’s Dolnet Bel Air Bari. The only thing hard about it besides the Chedeville rubber is putting it down. I purchased the Power Ring with it so of course it’s a perfect match. It’s so much easier to play than my other two good mouthpieces of the same tip opening. Now I’ve got a greater advantage when it comes to the amount of air needed to support and the fantastic response. As Jody would say “it plays Pretty “, Cuts enough for my liking. I can concentrate on other playing matters now. #7 with 2 1/2 Alexander Superials. The only other mouthpiece I’ll consider is the same make and model only for fun a larger tip opening."

Do yourself a favor and purchase a DV HR Alto

Every serious saxophone player has been on the same journey that I myself have been on. Some travel this journey for a few years, some, as myself, take over a decade. That journey is to find not only that certain "sound" they hear in the back of there mind but that certain "feel" that comes from from deep inside their soul (so to speak.) I've been playing sax for nearly 30 years, have played many professional grade mouthpieces and finally I can say I found it. My most recent MP was Theo Wanne Mindi Abair model on my alto. It was a great mouthpiece but I still was missing that certain something but couldn't put my finger on it. I considered many options but after a little research and listening to Jody E. Demo the DV HR It really intrigued me, so what else could I do except order one. It arrived in the mail. I placed my Legere signature series read on the mouthpiece and this thing is amazing. I can play this thing with Soulful beauty or push it to the edge of screaming pop or rock sounds, and to top it off I can say that I have never played a MP that plays so easily. No more headaches after playing, which was becoming a problem as I get older. Do yourself a favor and purchase one. I don't see how it can get any better. You will enjoy. I think I will put my other mp to rest.

This mouthpiece is free blowing with a more open sound and better response over what I’ve played on for twenty years.

"It’s a new gear year! Searching high and low for the right mouthpiece, I filled out the 6 questions and got a immediate response from Tyler recommending the DV Tenor 7*. Jody came to town this month for a clinic and brought a few DV’s that I could try. Tyler nailed it! This mouthpiece is free blowing with a more open sound and better response over what I’ve played on for twenty years. In a ten piece band with five horns, it’s given me the sound and feel I had in my head with an option to increase reed strength to improve articulation. It’s a blast to play. Thank You JodyJazz!"

Everything I expected and hoped it would be!

"My main attraction to the DV was everyone seemed to say how easy and fun it was to play. I was very pleased to find it lived up 100% to the hype. I haven't been playing the Bari a long time but am proficient on other instruments and I appreciated the highest quality tools. The DV did not let me down. The easy air flow really helps me be able to practice longer, and it really is FUN to play. Thanks Jody in a world of crappy over hyped products it's great to find something that is really well made! Proud to a JodyJazz DV player.'

HR* Clarinet 6 Mini Comparison

"For a long time I've been playing a Vandoren 5JB with a Legere European Cut 3.00 reed, but I dropped my mouthpiece and broke the tip. I went to Virtuosity Musical Instruments in Boston, and they kindly let me try mouthpieces with a tip opening similar to the 5JB, which is 147/100mm. I tried a 5JB with the newer Profile 88. The profile did not seem different than my traditional profile 5JB, but with either 5JB I have to be careful of my embrasure at the upper end of the Clarion register or I'll squeak. Also, the Altissimo E is difficult to play in tune. I also tried a Theo Wanne 7 mouthpiece. It was more easy blowing than the 5JB, which was nice, and it didn't have the squeaking or intonation issues. However, it was too bright in the Clarion register. And, it's way too expensive. Most of Virtuosity's customers are orchestral players, so they didn't have any JodyJazz mouthpieces in stock, but I took a chance and ordered an HR* Clarinet 6 from JodyJazz. It doesn't have the squeaking issues, it has great intonation in the Altissimo register, and it has the warmth in the Clarion register (in all registers) that I was hoping for. I also noticed that on the lowest notes, when blowing hard, the overtones that are created are particularly pleasing--strong and warm yet not raspy. All in all, the HR* is easy to play up and down the range of the clarinet, and it has wonderful tone quality throughout. It's a winner!"

The perfect jazz mouthpiece!

"I purchased a JodyJazz JET 7 baritone mouthpiece from my local music shop and it gives me an insane amount of control while feeling effortless to play. The 7 is a very forgiving tip opening and can make any baritone scream or play smooth. A very good upgrade if you want a jazz mouthpiece for baritone saxophone. Very smooth everything and consistent."

Amazing Clarinet Mouthpiece!

I hated playing the clarinet until I tried the JodyJazz HR* Clarinet mouthpiece. That is not hyperbole. I’m a woodwind doubler, and I have tried an embarrassing number of mouthpieces trying to find something that would make the clarinet enjoyable. I bought an HR* 1 and 2. I kept them both, because they both play amazingly well. They were the first mouthpieces I’ve played that made the instrument feel like I could get out of it what I was putting into it. Beautifully free blowing, warm, full tone, reed friendly, and super in tune. I’ve been playing on these pieces for months now, and I’m finally enjoying the clarinet. It’s really made a big difference in my life. Thank you, Jody!

A great mouthpiece recommendation!

"The JET Tenor 6 has given my intermediate Selmer Tenor a more cutting and robust sound using a Legere American Cut 2.75 reed. Playability at the extremes of the horn's register is easier to play with consistency as well as altissimo. I feel like I have a "new" and better sax. Bravo to the entire JodyJazz Team. Tyler Harris did a fantastic job of matching the right mouthpiece to my needs and current skill level!"

Powerful and subtle tone, flexibility and myriad colors.

"I got a JodyJazz mouthpiece a few weeks ago and enjoyed it tremendously. Then I read online a few bad reviews of the power ring, discarding it as a napkin ring for a huge price. I felt challenged by that and got a power ring. It is magic! Powerful and subtle tone, flexibility and myriad colors. Fantastic!!! Since I have it, neighbors stopped complaining that I practice too much. Thank you Jody Espina!"

Great Sound

"I used to be a classical sax player and then had a 15-year break, doing other things in life. I decided to go back to playing the sax and had my super Selmer renovated. And then I was totally unhappy with my old classical mouthpiece. I spent a few hours browsing the web and created a rather long short list of mouthpieces I wanted to try. And then I saw a video with Jody Espina playing his own mouthpiece. I liked the sound very much but in general don't trust recorded sound very much. Still I took the risk. It felt a bit like dating a girl you met online and suspect that all her pictures had been heavily photoshopped. The mouthpiece arrived only two days ago and already we are a happy couple. And a really hot one!"

Congratulations to the JodyJazz team for this magnificent series!

I've been playing a JodyJazz HR* Tenor 7* for a long time, and have been very happy with it. I was also a Vandoren and Yanigasawa artist with the Sax 4 quartet on Baritone sax. I have recently discovered the JodyJazz HR* CUSTOM DARK mouthpieces, which are very high quality mouthpieces with a perfect finish and superb quality ebonite. I started by trying an HR* CUSTOM DARK Alto 7, and then I bought an HR* CUSTOM DARK Tenor 7* and an HR* CUSTOM DARK Soprano 7*. Congratulations to the JodyJazz team for this magnificent series!

It Does Everything!

I recently purchased the Hand-Hammered Tenor 7 and matching HRT1HHRG Power Ring. I was a little concerned at the price point but I couldn't get the idea of it out of my head. During practice I really liked how it responded from whisper lows to screaming altissimo. I played a couple shows in Nashville and it did not disappoint. I was able to cut through the electric instruments really well. I tried it at a big band rehearsal and it blended perfectly. I really like this piece and will be using it for a very long time!

"Tyler at JodyJazz was extremely helpful to me as I was trying to choose the correct mouthpiece for my situation. He also responded in a very timely manner when I had questions. As soon as I received my JodyJazz HR*Alto 5M mouthpiece and HRA1 Gold Power Ring I was highly impressed. I don't play professionally, but I do play on our worship team in our worship services every Sunday. I am glad I ordered both the mouthpiece and the Power Ring. This combo was a great step up for me and the design characteristics greatly enhanced the sound on my 1960 Martin Indiana Alto. I have a much fuller, brighter sound with a more robust volume. What a difference this purchase made!"

Great mouthpiece and all, but...

"I love this mouthpiece a whole lot, but I think the only issue is that the finish on it comes off real easy if you use a "Rovner" ligature or any ligature that is made of that material. I always have to be very careful sliding it on because I have seen what they do to the mouthpieces if you grind it to much. My friend (He plays baritone sax in the Crescent Super band) he had a SUPER JET mouthpiece that has lost a lot of finish due to his ligature which is a bit disappointing for him. But in conclusion, it is truly a masterpiece and I really recommend it to anyone who is looking for a bright fat sound, and a great shinny good looking mouthpiece."

Jody Jazz Rocks!

I was searching for my first professional quality Alto mouthpiece, so I called JodyJazz. I spoke with Tyler and he recommended I try the HR* Alto 5M, 6M, & 7M. They have a program that allows you to receive three mouthpieces and play test them for three weeks. This was a huge help to me as this was my first pro quality Jazz mouthpiece and I was a bit unsure about which one would be the best fit for me. This ended up being a very difficult decision as I absolutely loved all three of them! I eventually decided on keeping the 7M because I loved the more edgy and jazzier sound it offered. My entire experience with the folks at JodyJazz was amazing! They make high quality innovative products and are truly passionate about the products they build. I highly recommend JodyJazz products!

I love my JodyJazz JET.

"I love my JodyJazz JET. I use it in a rock band where I have to compete with guitars and a very loud drummer. The JET really cuts through with great projection. This is a great choice if you want a bright modern sound. It gives my sound a nice edge, and I do find altissimo quite a bit easier, just as advertised. I also want to give a shout out to the JodyJazz staff. I answered the 6 questions and they responded really quickly, including some valuable advice.

Amazing Mouthpiece

"After answering the 6's from JodyJazz, I received recommendations on what mouthpieces to get, and purchased Giant. My first impression in one word was..."WOW"! I never understood what "stealth metal" meant until I played this mouthpiece. It looks like hard rubber but it isn't. The sound is a mixture of dark and bright. There isn't a word I can think of to describe my impression, but it's a mixture of dark but powerful. The seal is excellent in this mouthpiece. As you can see in the photo, I do not get the same "pop" sound from my Otto Link Tone Master and Tone Edge when I do the seal test. The difference between Giant and Otto Link Tone Master is like "night and day". I don't have to adjust my embouchure that much to get to the right tune. I practiced the whole day on the first day this mouthpiece arrived and I lost track of the time. It is so enjoyable to play with this mouthpiece. My other mouthpieces sound like trash compared to Giant. I love this mouthpiece and it’s probably the best one I ever owned. It looks hard rubber but sounds metal to me. I can’t wait to get the DV CHI."

DV Chicago Awesomeness!!!

I've been playing tenor sax for 4 years now and Jody helped me early on get started with an HR* tenor 6*. About 8 months ago felt it was time to upgrade and after quite a bit of reading and listening research and all kinds of fantastic help from Linden with Bandwagon in Nashville decided to order a DV Chicago 7*. Placed the order with in March, received it in August, and after playing this mouthpiece for 2 months now it's blowin' my mind! Have always had trouble with the successive low Bb notes on Jimmy Forrest’s Night Train but the DV Chi makes these notes easy to hit every time as well as always being crisp and clear. AWB’s Pick Up The Pieces overall sounds so much better with the DV Chi as the flurry of notes throughout the song play so much more accurately with this mouthpiece. On scales my transitions between the upper register and lower register notes have sometimes been shaky but again the DV Chi makes these notes sound more even whether traveling up or down the scale. This mouthpiece almost seems to function like a compressor/limiter for guitar as the notes have a more consistent volume and tone but without squashing the sound at all. Also, my higher register notes including altissimo notes are easier to play with the DV Chi and the intonation with these notes is fantastic."

Awesome! A fantastic mouthpiece at a great price.

I recently got back into playing the soprano and decided that this time around I would go all in and get some nice equipment, starting with a Yanagisawa S-WO2. I wasn’t sure what tip opening I would need for the mouthpiece, so I experimented with various cheap mouthpieces as well as different reed strengths. Once I found the combination that worked for me, it was time to find a proper mouthpiece. I’ve used other brand names in the past (including one that came with a jaw dropping price tag) but I had never experienced playing a JodyJazz mouthpiece. After learning more about them through the BetterSax website, I decided to give them a try. I’ll sum up my experience by saying: “Wow!” The HR* Soprano 5* is free blowing, allowing me to easily play the entire range of the sax with ease. The sound is great, being a bit old fashioned and modern at the same time: slightly on the dark side but with hints of brightness. In other words, a very versatile mouthpiece. I’ve paired it with a Rovner ligature and some Hemke reeds and I am completely satisfied that what I’ve got is the best combination for me and my playing. And best of all, the JodyJazz HR* series costs a lot less than some of the other mouthpieces I was considering. And it’s made in the USA! If you’ve never played a JodyJazz, it’s time to reconsider. With their trial period and easy returns you’ve got nothing to lose, and a lot to gain. I’m now looking into replacing my alto mouthpiece with a JodyJazz.

The HR* CUSTOM DARK Tenor is fantastic.

"The HR* CUSTOM DARK Tenor is fantastic. The sound is resonant, the feel is free-blowing, and the tonal quality is consistent across the registers. You can also open up and project the sound should you desire. It's an improvement over my HR*. I'll always hold onto it, but after 15 years on that mouthpiece, I think it's retired. You don't need to have a pro sax to sound like a pro, but you do need good technique and a great mouthpiece. If you're short on cash and wondering what might be the best way to upgrade your sound, I'd go with a mouthpiece first. Mere mortals shouldn't sound this good. Thanks again. Finally, The Mouthpiece I’ve Been Seeking!

"I love my HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone mouthpiece, so I decided to get an HR* CUSTOM DARK for my tenor; the Eastman 52nd St. OEM mouthpiece and a cheap aftermarket one were infuriatingly inconsistent, making all my tenor practices difficult and frustrating. I just tried out my new HR* CUSTOM DARK Tenor 6* opening for tenor, on a 3.0 reed, and MY GOD! The sound!! The predictability! The stability and consistency along the whole range! It’s finally allowed me to enjoy my horn! Thank you, Jody Jazz!!!"

Finally, I got the HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone 9 tip opening and the very moment I played my first note, a D, the sound that came out was PRECISELY what I had been wanting! It gave me chills it was so good!! I’m now playing with more depth and control—not to mention JOY—than I’ve ever experienced! This mouthpiece delivers on its promise and then some! The Best Mouthpiece Ever!

"I've been looking for a mouthpiece like this since I started playing baritone saxophone 30 years ago. The mouthpiece that I've been using for the last 30 years provided me with very well rounded bottom at the compromise of a very thin sound at the top of the horn. For some reason the baffle on the old mouthpiece shut the sound off when I played in the upper register and I had a constantly make embouchure adjustments in order to play. The JodyJazz DV Baritone 8 makes the bottom of the horn bigger brighter thicker and heavier. The bottom of the horn plays effortlessly and facilitates my ability to phrase and add color to the sound better than I ever have been able to do on my horn. At the middle and the upper register the sound no longer closes off and the air flows through the instrument freely giving me complete control. The altissimo range also plays effortless and has a full body sound. When backing up the singers from Puerto Rico in my Salsa Band that I run the JodyJazz DV 8 allows me to cut through the lower frequencies that come from the percussion bass and piano, as well as cutting through on the upper end with the trombones and trumpets. I also tested in the recording studio. The sound that the DV gives me in the studio is superlative to any mouthpiece I have used to record in the past. It is just the best mouthpiece I've ever used on the Baritone sax! Thank you very much Jody Espina and the JodyJazz team!!!!!!!

Delighted with my new JodyJazz HR* CUSTOM DARK Alto 6

"I am new to Alto Saxophone and have used several mouthpieces including a Yamaha 4C and Selmer s80 C*. These were reasonable but I wanted a darker sound so I decided to upgrade to a JodyJazz HR* CUSTOM DARK Alto 6 mouthpiece. Because the tip opening was larger than I was used Jody advised that I may need a softer reed than the Legere Signature 3 I'd been using. Fantastic mouthpiece

"I was on the market for a new mouthpiece that would help create a dark sound but would also have an edge if pushed. I had seen reviews of JodyJazz mouthpieces on YouTube, but I was hesitant to purchase an expensive mouthpiece online without trying it out first. I heard Jody discuss their production process and their emphasis on consistency, so I decided to take the Six Questions survey on the website. I heard back from a Product Specialist within 48 hours who, based on my setup and the type of sound I was after, recommended the DV NY model, 7 tip opening. I've now played the mouthpiece for two weeks and I have to say it's fantastic! I'm able to achieve a beautiful, consistent tone throughout the horn. The setup is free blowing and very responsive. I have half a dozen other mouthpieces, but I honestly don't think I'll be using them. There are of course several elements involved in tone production aside from the mouthpiece, but at least for me, an intermediate amateur player, this mouthpiece is a great fit and enables me to focus on the most important, which is practice."

Nice upgrade mouthpiece with a big potential

"I bought the HR* Alto 5M as an upgrade for my Selmer S80 C* to get a less 'classical“ sound. Although I'm still a beginner the mouthpiece is very easy to play and control with this larger but still moderate tip opening. Very warm tones in the lower register, less 'aggressive“ in the upper register. The Selmer is outstanding regarding intonation, but the HR is very similar. It lets a lot of room to further improve your personal sound. Since I still only play at my home the dynamic range for me is more than enough."

This mouthpiece has amazing flexibility.

"I bought a Jody Jazz HR* 7M alto sax mouthpiece a few months ago - it is absolutely great ! With good air support and a relaxed but firm embouchure I can play from ppp down at Botton B flat and at any volume to ffff right into altissimo. This mouthpiece has amazing flexibility. And the tone - well it can be as smooth as silk or as edgy as you like. I know most of my sound is me - but the last 10% is mouthpiece. Thank you for producing an awesome mouthpiece which lets my sound shine through"

Overall, sick mouthpiece!

"So I'm a clarinet player that plays Mexican banda music and for the most part your sound needs to project a good amount when playing alongside screaming trumpets and trombones. I've been playing on a Beechler size 9 until my friend recommended me the JodyJazz mouthpieces. Honestly this mouthpiece is very solid and well made and I'm for sure switching to it completely. One of the the features I like about it besides the nice material is that the facing is slightly wider than the Beechler's. Since my lips are a little on the bigger side that actually helps me with not choking my sound when going to higher registers. I still get that amazing projection but with less stress on my lips which is really great. Overall, sick mouthpiece."

Outstanding mouthpiece

"I broke the rule book as a beginner and upgraded my stock mouthpiece after just 7 weeks to the JodyJazz JET Alto 6. Immediately everything became easier to play and I was instantly able to play a lot higher than I could with my stock mouthpiece and now able to play altissimo. I’ve been playing the JET for 2 months now and I can honestly say it’s helped me improve so much more and achieve the sound I wanted that I had hoped one day I’d have."

Good Job, JodyJazz

"I have finally received my new mouthpiece from JodyJazz. I am very surprised at how good it is. I've been thinking for a long time about buying another mouthpiece. I was not satisfied with my sounding but I was not sure if buying another mouthpiece would be worth the price. Some people say, the gear does not make much change, that's definitely wrong. I play Tenor because I love the deep notes on that instrument. The low notes come out so easy and with a brilliant sound with my new mouthpiece. Now I am confident that the notes will respond with a nice sound, which makes me more easy going. In the higher range the notes are more easy to play with my new JodyJazz mouthpiece, which again makes me more relaxed while playing. Thanks to JodyJazz for the good quality, you have delivered."

Open up the licorice stick

"Wanted to rediscover the lightness of the clarinet after realizing that my 7 pound tenor sax hanging off my neck was kind of heavy. Jody’s Sax mouthpieces HR and HR dark on my alto and tenor breathed new life into my horns. It was time to get rid of the HS* on my clarinet. I went straight for the Jody Jazz HR 8. It opened up and transformed my 1959 Evette Schaffer Master Modele clarinet from a stuffy intermediate horn to a full bodied, woody, deep and expressive, fun to play licorice stick. I have replaced the ligatures on my tenor, alto and clarinet with power rings. I think that the improved contact of the reed with the mouthpiece table is a benefit., improving tone, increasing stability and ease of use."

The DV7* Tenor is Incredibly Free Blowing…! My frustration is over.

"I rarely do reviews, but when I do, I do so wholeheartedly. I am a long time performer and studio musician with over 50 years of experience. I practice at least 14 or more hours a week and when involved in a project, up to 4 hours a day. I play mostly smooth jazz. A mentor of mine (Mark Maxwell) recommended the Jody Jazz DV Series. I have been playing on a hard rubber mouthpiece since I started playing the saxophone in 1963. I switched to a 6* Strathon Adjustotone in 1970 and for the last 20 years on a Ralph Morgan Excalibur 6*. Over the years I tried several different brands of metal mouthpieces, but never liked any of them until I tried the DV7 which I purchased from JodyJazz about 7 months ago. From the moment I started playing it, I fell in love with the free blowing and tonal characteristics of this mouthpiece. I could not believe in only an hour or so of playing, I felt so comfortable with it. I love to play and this mouthpiece just makes me so happy when I play it. I already have a great free blowing tenor, a 2003 Black Nickel Keilwerth SX90R Tenor, but this mouthpiece has helped me better target altissimo notes, improved intonation, improved control, and removed stuffiness from certain notes (especially middle D). It provides full sound for the entire range. I am now playing a DV7* with a 3.25 Legere Signature reed and a Rovner Versa ligature. After a few weeks of playing, this combination has proven to be the perfect setup for me. Great for ballads, smooth jazz and fusion. I can play soft and beautiful, or push it hard. It doesn’t matter; I get a great sound live or in the studio. Free blowing, very good intonation, ease of altissimo, nice harmonics and even tone in all registers plus it is beautifully finished. Jody Espina has done an incredible job developing this high end mouthpiece at a cost effective price. Tyler Schaefers and Jody Espina both personally assisted me with my decision. A great company with knowledgeable and experienced employees. Fantastic trial policy, free shipping and very quick delivery. I highly recommend their products and also buy direct from JodyJazz."

This is a solid piece that I can trust

"I have been using a DV Alto 8 for quite a while, but I have found it too bright and loud in the upper register. Trying to compensate for that was causing problems. Tried the Earth from Theo Wanne but I didn't like the back-pressure and the tone was short and stubby. Have previously also used a re-worked Kessler NY. I suspected that an HR* would do the trick and it did. Great balance between upper and lower register. Altissimo comes out easily. A nice alto buzz in the lower register. Definitely not as bright and gutsy as the DV but for me better balanced and more comfortable. This is a solid piece that I can trust and it will allow me to stop worrying about the mouthpiece and reeds and use my practice time on other things."

My mind is blown!

"I've been after one of these for about 4 years after hearing about them, seemed to perfectly fit my style of playing. But I had a great mouthpiece already that I was used to and would be really hard to beat! My local sax store did not have the DV CHI, so I tried loads of mouthpieces. About 8 in all, all leaving me unimpressed. When gigging with my old mouthpiece some notes just did not pop, I figured it was just me getting overexcited. I had some cash and it was Christmas, I worked hard, so I ordered a DV CHI 8* with a power ring. OMG no more bum notes, top to bottom of horn perfection, slow down you breath and beautiful harmonics appear, speed it up it cuts through anything. No squeaks associated with other metal mouthpieces. Just effortless. My mind is blown! Wish I got this 4 yrs ago!!"

Great Value + Quality For Money

"I was already very happy using the HR* Alto 6M on my Alto Sax - which I bought recently and wanted a good mouthpiece for my Tenor Sax. I shortlisted JodyJazz's Jet Tenor mouthpiece but wasn't sure of the appropriate mouthpiece size. JodyJazz has a tabulation for mouthpiece sizes between brands for "Tenor" to "Tenor" only but does not have a guide for a transition from JodyJazz Alto to JodyJazz Tenor. We sent an email to JJ and Tyler Schaefers - Product Specialist responded and advised us very quickly. I eventually bought the Jet Tenor #6 Tip Opening. Indeed, I am sooooo...satisfy with it. Indeed, it is really "free blowing" and its brightness (I always thought I need a metal mouthpiece for the "bright" tone) matches quite ideally for the lower toned Bb tenor sax. Next dream ..... the JJ DV Series, which I'm sure will be an excellent mouthpiece. However, the price is currently beyond my third world currency purchasing power.!"

This thing ROCKS! Intonation is good, horn plays more easily and it can blend/play softly!

"I contacted the customer service department at JodyJazz and answered their 6 question survey, and asked about advice on either an HR* or JET for my next bari sax mouthpiece. I play SATB in different/various groups and have played for over 40 years. I am playing in a horn band where we cover a lot of ground: jazz, funk, r&b, straight ahead, etc and was looking for more projection, less resistance, and a bit brighter sound than I was getting from my Otto Link STM 7. I've also played Vandoren V16 B7 which gave me good projection but I didn't like the JK SX90R horn's sound with it in the upper register. Decided on the JodyJazz JET 7 and use the Rico H-style ligature I ordered with it. This thing ROCKS! Intonation is good, horn plays more easily and it can blend/play softly as well as punch through the TOP brass sound when I need it to. I've had it about a month and am still experimenting a bit with slightly softer reeds and have gotten used to its lower beak profile. It is pretty reed friendly but I've always played on medium-long facing curves with a bit higher reed strengths and some embouchure adjustment is expected with this piece along with softer reeds to better accommodate its shorter facing curve. It is pretty easy to play, but does require a little bit more skill in controlling it as it is very responsive and quite low resistance. I am very happy with it and it is quite flexible in what it can do. I am thinking of buying an HR* as well, just to compare and also so I have another nicely hand finished mouthpiece that can cover any of the genres or small combo stuff I may do that the Jet might just be a little bit much for. These mouthpieces seem to deliver a lot for the price and are well made, made in America, and a good deal all around!"

The JodyJazz Giant Tenor 7* was always my favorite

"The JodyJazz Giant Tenor 7* was always my favorite, but I had to experiment with the DV CHI Tenor metal and the JET eventually, just to hear and feel the differences. I currently own all three. I also played a Vandoren mouthpiece for a time. But I always came back to the Giant. Recently, I had to stop playing/practicing due to a moderately severe and long lasting bout of Covid. Just today, I had enough energy to play for about 40 minutes, which was a wonderful feeling. The night before, I had seen Jody's video about embouchure endurance, hours per week playing, and other factors as a means for Jody to help players find the right piece. Remembering his saying that his own embouchure was relaxed across the range, and the importance of the facing curve, etc...I made a slight adjustment to my own embouchure. When I did this, I literally discovered my long sought after personal sound on the Giant. It gave me the "Texas tenor" sound, great intonation across the range, the flexibility in dynamics, and I had to get accustomed to using more air through the horn. I have never been as pleased as I am with the Giant sound with my expertly and recently overhauled Yanigasawa T991. It was a huge leap, and all attributed to the Giant and to Jody's comments, teaching, and advice. I use a 3 Fibracell reed, and I am convinced I have never sounded better on any piece. I also discovered a huge improvement with the DV CHI as well, although I would have to play the Chi a few weeks in order to become totally comfortable with it. I love the spread and larger size of the Giant. I have learned through the years that Jody gives the most accurate and thoughtful advice and descriptions to customers and potential customers. Sure, he wants to sell, and he is getting into other name brands, but it would seem that customers will be able to trust his products and his advice."

"I just got a POWER RING HRT1S ligature for my JodyJazz Giant Tenor, my preferred mouthpiece for some months now. All I can say is WOW! What an immediate and effortless transformation of my mouthpiece! A beautiful round sound with an unexpected body and weight. Feels like my tenor plays itself. As if someone pressed the sustain pedal on the piano. Low notes come out as easy as breathing and altissimo is more music and melody than ever. I chose the silver one. The SUPER JET Tenor is a work of art and such a pleasure to play.

"I recently bought a JodyJazz Super Jet 8* mouthpiece from Cosmo Music here in Southern Ontario north of Toronto. I had been playing a Dukoff mouthpiece for many years and playing the Jody Jazz Super Jet made me realize that I should have switched to JodyJazz years ago! I had a problem though. The mouthpiece didn't seem to sit perfectly on the neck cork of my 1968 Selmer Mark VI Tenor. In order to keep my horn in tune, the Super Jet was only on the cork about 5/8 of an inch. It felt and looked unstable. I tried a few adjustments without much success so I sent off an email to JodyJazz to ask them if they had any suggestions. Danielle Walker got back to me right away to ask me where I had bought the Super Jet so I told her. She asked if I could take a photo of the Super Jet 8* and send it to her which I did, I also sent her the sales receipt from Cosmo Music where I had bought it. She let me know that the Super Jet that I had bought was an earlier model with a short shank and the current Super Jet Tenor has a longer shank. All I had to do was send her my Super Jet 8* and Jody Jazz would replace it with a new long shank Super Jet 8*. So a few weeks after I sent off my Super Jet to Jody Jazz I received a new JodyJazz Super Jet 8* Tenor mouthpiece with a longer shank. Problem solved! I cannot thank JodyJazz and Danielle Walker enough for their friendly quality service and problem-solving, it is outstanding!! And that doesn't include the quality of the mouthpiece itself. It is a work of art and such a pleasure to play. It feels like I'm cheating somehow because it has made my horn so much easier to play. Thanks so much everyone at JodyJazz!!"

Easy to play, fantastic sound

"A friend of mine sold me his Giant with a number 7* tip opening. I love how easy it is to play from the bottom all the way through to the top. It's brighter than the average piece in my collection but I tend heavily towards the darker warmer toned mouthpieces. I find that with a short warmup period of a couple minutes the tones fill out and bring a sound very similar to my early Babbitt Otto Link. A difference I have found is when I push this mouthpiece hard it modulates to a sound that seems more contemporary and suitable for rock or funk. If I lay low on it I can get the breathy warmth of a ballad out of it as well. Overall this has quickly become one of my favorite mouthpieces for my tenor and is there for me when I want something that can deliver some punch."

The best mouthpiece ever!

"I've played for the last 15 years on a JodyJazz ESP Baritone (130) and it is powerful and dark. It is one of the best mouthpiece (I have a lot) I ever played. Yesterday I tried the JodyJazz DV NY Baritone (9) and it is easier, very free blowing, warm sound, very definite and precise. I loved it soon and I bought it. Now it is mine. The sound of DV NY is less darker and a little bit less powerful than ESP, but with DV NY you can play with harder reeds. Control is even easier; you can do everything you want. In the shop I compared it with Theo Wanne Durga and ... there is no comparison. Whereas the Durga, while perfect in all registers, has no personality, the DV NY has its own soul and it is wonderful. I think it is the best mouthpiece I ever played with (and I have a vintage Otto Link Florida (metal), a vintage Otto Link Early Babbit (rubber), a very rare Brillart "Personaline" Ebolin ('50s) and so on...). JodyJazz ESP perhaps it still has a more mellow sound, darker, and offers more resistance to those who blow; DV NY, on the other hand, it is much easier and more precise, with a sound that seems "sculpted" with the precision of Michelangelo ... This is a real jewel, a great art work from the skilled hands of Jody Espina. Thanks Jody for this masterpiece!"

I highly recommend the JET Tenor if you are on a budget.

Well that changed, I ended up buying with what little money I had from birthday the JET mouthpiece and absolutely love it! The fact that it’s so open sounding is great and was a HUUUUGE leap towards the tone I wanted! Granted it’s definitely not the worlds best mouthpiece, I was able to actually buy it new! Not a penny was wasted. I love the little resistance I get on it with a tip opening of a 7 and 2.5 reeds. I highly recommend it if you are on a budget."

The More Expensive, The Better?

I used to think like that until I get my hand on the HR* Tenor 8. And it was not far from truth. I played saxophone in middle and high school before switched to bassoon. Went to college with it and play exclusively for 6 years, before I pick up a second hand Yamaha tenor from a shop nearby. It came with Yamaha 4c which I don't like much. Then I decided to pick whatever upgrade options they have. And fortunately, it was Jody's piece. The moment I blow into it, I'm struck. "This is MY sound" I thought. It was truly a very bizarre experience for me. These past 6 years, I have some opportunities to coach some kids to play saxophone. Every time I play theirs, I only feel like 'I still can make a sound out of it' nothing more than that. Not until I own mine. Think about it, a guy who play bassoon for 6 years straight, pick up a sax, blow into it and immediately found his own sound. That's how amazing this JodyJazz HR* is. Like many others reviews say, JodyJazz HR* is very free blowing, easy to project and it is actually quite dark. I don't know about you guys but with little experience I have with musical equipment, I feel like I could stick with this piece and I'll be fine for life. Trying new stuff and exploring new possibilities is fun, I totally agree. But I don't want to buy thing that I'm not going to use just for the sake of collecting. In my opinion, JodyJazz HR* truly offer the best value for money compare to others. But right now I'm looking for something more, a bit more darker and fuller. Maybe I'll try the HR Custom Dark soon. Sincerely, Saran P.S. In case you curious, I play a good old Yamaha YTS-24II tenor. It is a YTS-23 with high F#, upgrade mechanisms and gold lacquered all over. Nothing fancy but I practice everyday and very happy with it.

Got my sound back with JodyJazz!

"I currently play the JodyJazz Giant 8* for tenor. For me it's the best of all worlds. It offers plenty of projection and it sits in the middle of the dark to bright spectrum. For me, all that means I can color my sound however I need to. It lets me sing out when I need to and even and cut through a loud rock band, but I can use the same piece to blend into a jazz big band sax section or play in more intimate small ensembles. I can subtone all I want and still play way up in the altissimo register with a good tone and dynamics. I've been playing JodyJazz mouthpieces since 2012. At the time I was recovering from a case of Bell's palsy -- a temporary, partial facial paralysis -- which obviously prevented me from playing my horn for a while. As muscle movement gradually returned I was determined to play again but my old mouthpieces had too much resistance for my recovering embouchure. Air would leak out of the side of my mouth because I simply didn't have the physical strength or control to deal with it. Through word-of-mouth I heard about JodyJazz and really appreciated the ethos of more free-blowing mouthpieces. I got a JodyJazz Classic Tenor #8 (which was still in production at that time) and an HR* Tenor #7*, both of which were far less resistant than what I had. I could play again! I was still far from where I wanted to be, but just the ability to make the sounds I wanted to hear kept me going and the more I played, the stronger I got. I truly believe playing accelerated my recovery and JodyJazz had a lot to do with that!"

The difference between my old classical stock mouthpiece and this is night and day. It's like playing without restrictions. I feel like I am free when it comes to airflow its amazing. My tone is bit better. I am still working towards having that professional sound and feel like everyday I am getting closer. Looking forward to playing more!

"I am very disappointed that I didn't buy this mouthpiece years ago. I have been playing on an old Otto link 7. I thought it was good enough for me. When I put the new mouthpiece on the sax I was amazed at how much better it sounded and how much easier it was to play. It's more fun to play. Easier to practice. Looking forward to playing more. I also go a power ring ligature. I do notice the extra weight on the horn, but that is a small issue. Thank you very much."

Dark and Husky

JODY JAZZ HR* mouthpiece: When I was looking for a mouthpiece that would help me improve my playing amd tone I came across Jody Jazz on YouTube and Net , who I noticed were making huge range of mouthpiece. Enough to confuse any guy. When I contacted they asked me six questions, Mr Jody Espina looked at them and suggested the right mouthpiece for me. Problem that was seemingly very tough was solved in no time. Now I have the JODY JAZZ HR* mouthpiece and I am so happy. The mouthpiece led me to beautiful rounded tone, little Dark but husky. That’s in lower octave. When I step up to higher octave it becomes smooth and easy. In short, without much effort, I am playing what I feel like. Also, the folks say my tone has changed. Loved the Matt finish, machined surfaces and hand-finished curves. It has very good looks and amazing sound. Thanks again to Jody Espina and his team for suggesting me and making me play sax more often as I am enjoying it now.

The HR* CUSTOM DARK Soprano 7* produces beautiful tones effortlessly!!

"Hi Jody, My name is Reiner Svento from Singapore. I am church saxophonist from Church of St Mary of the angels. My main 🎷 is curved soprano. I watched your HR* CUSTOM DARK Soprano product launch live. I have done some researches for new mouthpiece and I'm very keen on the HR* CUSTOM DARK mouthpiece. I ordered it since Feb 2021. Unfortunately Daniel just bring in 7 without 7*. However he tried to order it for me. Finally the shipment came yesterday night. I tried the 7 first, as I noticed it is not as open as I wanted although the tone was spot on. Then I tried 7*, it blows me away. It was so loud and can reach high notes easily. It produces beautiful tones effortlessly!! Thanks for producing such a beautiful mouthpeice for me. Special thanks to Jeff Kashiwa on his performance using this HR CUSTOM DARK. Last but not least, thanks to my bro Daniel Chia who brought in this gem into Singapore. I might be the 1st proud owner in Asia"

It has never been so easy to make the saxophone speak so well

"First of all I would like to mention that having the mouthpiece in just three days was an excellent experience. Now regarding the mouthpiece I must say it was the best decision ever. At least for me deciding to invest in a mouthpiece in this price range without considering myself as a pro player was kind of difficult. But being an intermediate musician and having enjoyed the instrument so much for more than 30 years (now I’m 50 years old) I decided to give myself the opportunity. As always, when purchasing a new mouthpiece (both metal or rubber) I brought a bunch of reeds (different strength and brand) and some ligatures to start the pairing process. It has never been so easy to make the saxophone speak so well with such a variety of reeds with their specific characteristics, from natural cane to synthetic reeds. I feel even more motivated to practice and keep improving as a musician. Thanks a lot to the JodyJazz team for being so helpful in providing the recommendations. The JodyJazz DV Alto 6, the best mouthpiece I have ever owned, period."

Throughout all registers the sound is solid and gorgeous and I might add smooth like silk.

"Hi Jody. I received today my mouthpiece! When I open up the box I was instantly impressed by the stunning looks and design of it. It's the best looking mouthpiece I ever owned! I was at work when I received it and I couldn't wait to go home and try it. My impressions? Within the first 10 seconds of playing with it I knew this was something special! It looks fantastic with my Yanagisawa WO1 soprano and Silverstein ligature. See photo attached. But the most striking difference I observed with all other mouthpieces I have tried so far is the ease by which I can play in the altisimo register and sound in tune and have a truly beautiful soprano sound. Throughout all registers the sound is solid and gorgeous and I might add smooth like silk. The reed seats perfectly in the table of the mouthpiece and there are no airy sounds. Just pure sound! So in short I'm impressed and I want to thank you for creating such a great mouthpiece. It feels you did put your mind and heart into it. It feels so! Thanks again. And soon I'm going to order your alto mouthpiece too! Greetings from Dublin. Yanni Hatz"

Soprano Heaven

Hi Jody. Don from the UK here. Opened the box and threw on an old 3S reed and this mouthpiece sung immediately. I can only imagine what another few weeks playing it will bring. Some players told me told that the YAMAHA 4CM stock ebonite soprano piece would be the best/easiest to start on again but I find both the top and bottom end on the 7* Custom Dark far easier to control. It expresses beauty and warmth and exactly what I hear in my head. It can still be pushed though if that's what you're feeling! I think I might have to retire the other horns and play soprano full time after this! Can you tell that I'm excited?! I love it. Thanks Jody. Best. Don

The GIANT is Superb!!

"The GIANT Tenor 10* (George Garzone model) is the freest blowing BIG mouthpiece I have ever experienced. Having played a few different 10* Otto Link’s for years and never achieving the sound or flexibility I needed in those pieces, I gave up on the big metal mouthpiece game and resigned myself to playing 8* facings. I have had much success with that set-up and felt content with my decision to switch. But after hearing some folks play the GIANT 10* online, I was interested for sure. There is so much tone and versatility in sound available from this piece that I was amazed the very first time I played it. From sultry dark sub tones all the way to bright rock-n-roll honking tenor! This mouthpiece is destined to be a classic and is versatile enough to fit into any playing situation. I encourage everyone interested in playing a big tip opening piece to try the GIANT in 9* or 10* tip openings. Great work Jody and Garzone!!!!"

"My New Favorite Mouthpiece"

"I fell in love with JJ mouthpieces several years ago and own several Until today, my favorite was an HR*, 7 tip opening with a 2 1/4 Legere reed on a Selmer Reference 54 tenor. This setup plays in tune across the register which is great. I love the rich relatively dark low end of the horn. Having said that I have always felt the upper register was slightly brighter and a little "out of balance" with the lows. Like I said, that was until today when I received my HR* Custom Dark with a 7 tip opening. With everything else exactly as described above I now have a horn that still plays in tune across the entire instrument. The lower register is slightly darker than the HR* but the upper register is much darker and in perfect balance. This is a great mouthpiece and a perfect companion for my 7* Giant which if my second favorite mouthpiece for those times when I want (need) a brighter sound. Thank you for delivering on a promise. I'm a very happy customer."

Transformation of sound

My Name is Chris Stansfield I'm a Jazz Vocalist, in Adelaide Australia, and I'm studying a Bachelor of Teaching and Music Education at the University of Adelaide. The Elder Conservatorium is part of the University and it is Australia's most senior music Conservatory. As part of the degree, students are required to have a second instrument. I chose Tenor Saxophone, as it was the first instrument I played in high school and in my early 20s. I haven't played for nearly 30 years. I bought a second hand student sax off a friend who bought it for his son, but he lost interest, so he offered it to me to buy. It is a Axiom Prelude. It retails here in Australia for $799.00 The sound of the horn was terribly bright and the mouthpiece was not really helping the situation, it was an assault on the ears. After answering Jody's 6 questions I gave the HR Dark Custom 6*, which Jody had recommended, a blow at a local distributor here in Adelaide, Presto Music and Instrument Repairs. I paired the mouthpiece with a 2&1/2 Vandoren ZZ reed and BG Duo ligature I was absolutely gobsmacked, the transformation of the horn's tone was miraculous. Gone was the nauseatingly bright sound and intonation issues, and squeaking, I almost didn't believe my ears. It was replaced by a lovely warm dark tome. Simon Clarke, Presto's owner was very impressed too and glad he had included the HR Dark Custom in his range of mouthpieces'. If you are looking for darker sound on your horn, you can't go past the HR Dark Custom, that Jody has designed, it is a work of art. Don't hesitate and try different a lot of different mouthpieces on your search for a darker sound, you can't go past The Jody Jazz HR Dark Custom range of mouthpieces.

Unrivaled and Excellent customer support and guidance

"Though I have been playing for 40 years, I have never stepped out and really invested in my horns. As a family of meager means, I was blessed with finding an old King Sax in a shed behind our house, which is likely the only way I was able to get a musical instrument. I don't know that I even knew what a sax was, but my Mom put about $80 into it and I learned how to make noise, played some scales and the rest is history for me. I have always been intimidated by "Real" sax players who were taught their instrument and understand Music Theory (still working on that ) and when I hear them play I feel like should just sell my horns and stick to vocals as they are so AMAZING it makes my playing sound like a flock of geese! Then came Jay Metcalf at Better Sax on Youtube and it was easy to learn without being embarrassed by what I did not know. I was inspired when he extolled the consistency of Jody Jazz Mouthpieces. That felt like something I could invest in with confidence. Even though I have been blessed and have the money to spend now, it is still not easy to let go of dollars for my hobbies, especially for something I may not like. I travel for a living and cannot play nearly as often as I like, so I don't get the use out of my horns that Pros do. I finally decided to go for it, as my $5 Tenor mouthpiece just wasn't cutting it in the Horn Band I have stepped in to. I went on the JJ website and was surprised to learn I could try several mouthpieces and return those that did not work for me. Even more important.. Jody himself responded to my questions and made recommendations even beyond the "6 Questions". There was no condescension or judgement, just a sincere expression of helping me make a decision that would maximize my experience. The fact that he had $600+ mouthpieces and under $200.. all premium quality meant he understands not all of us are making a career, as much as we would like! I cannot express how much that meant to a Sax Hack like me to have one of the premier players in the world and the Developer of these incredible treasures for the Sax Community to take out time to help me make a choice that he felt would work for me. The Jet 7 has made a huge difference in my Tenor and I am getting one for my Alto as well. Someday I hope to upgrade my Bari as well. Thank you Jody for your inspiration and consideration of every player on the spectrum."

This mouthpiece has already transformed my playing!

I have just started to learn the sax and wasn't getting on with the mouthpiece I inherited with it so I was over the moon that after careful consideration and a lot of research, my husband (a pro sax player and teacher) gave me this mouthpiece for my birthday yesterday! His instinct- that this would somehow suit my playing style and personality - couldn't have been more spot on! Despite being so fresh to the instrument, the JodyJazz mouthpiece was instantly distinguishable from the others I have tried but also accessible for me and it feels as though my playing will get to grow with it (if that makes sense!). It has a lush, warm tone and the piece itself is beautifully crafted (and sexy matte finish!) Thanks for making such a magnificent mouthpiece and enriching my saxophone experience even further!

Perfect Jazz Mouthpiece!

"I have a degree in music, was a school instrumental music teacher for 20 years, and have been a professional musician since the 80s. I've never been completely happy with the mouthpiece I used for jazz and rock, so it was time for a change. Through Jody's awesome trial program, I tried 2 of his mouthpieces, the DV NY and HR* Custom Dark. I had low expectations of the DV NY, since I never liked metal mouthpieces on alto. Most metal alto mouthpieces have a thin and very bright tone. My preference is a full, warm, dark tone. The DV NY tone was completely unexpected, very warm and full, free blowing with just a slight touch of edge when pushed. I found that I can easily play softly and warm, but can also really push it to get enough volume and bite for big band lead alto, without the obnoxious thin, bright and buzzy sound that many metal mouthpieces exhibit. The 6 tip opening is quite comfortable and controllable. Another unexpected difference, is more sympathetic vibration of my Yanagisawa 880, which can be felt while playing. After answering Jody's 6?s and my phone conversation with him, he really nailed down the perfect choice for what I wanted. In addition, it’s a rare treat to communicate directly with the business owner. Jody's mouthpieces are very well made, and the craftsmanship and attention to detail shows. The website mouthpiece descriptions are as accurate as can be described in words. I look forward to many years with my beautiful new DV NY."

Easy-blowing all across the range & into altissimo, very loud & bright when pushed but tame when pulling back

"After playing only a few hours on only a couple reeds, the Super Jet alto piece strikes me as similar to my old Dukoff D7*, but without all the "finickiness" of those pieces. Surprisingly easy-blowing all across the range & into altissimo, very loud & bright when pushed (the reason I got it), but tame when pulling back, to the point where you could play in more relaxed/intimate settings. Definitely will not be sending this back, & also want to praise it for being so good stock, right out of the box. I don't see this needing any further tweaking or refinement, as it's the real deal from your shop already!"

Great for everything !

I tried the Jet 6 for Alto saxophone because my old mouthpiece was not right for me (because I have Asthma). The Jet is great for R&B, Funk, Soul, Pop, but also clear and full sounding to do some "Jazzwork" but it would not be my favorite mouthpiece for only playing in a Jazzcombo cause it has too much power. Intonation is great, it is quite free-blowing, reed friendly an excellent mouthpiece. Great work!!

The most versatile moutpiece I ever played.

i tried the DV 7 for Alto saxophone . I have Asthma so I only like free blowing mouthpiece. The DV is wow!!! Extremely reed friendly and free-blowing. You can get even a classic Meyer sound out of this piece. It has a full body and after you get used to it (i need only 1 hour) you have great Intonation. I only have to blow and even with a soft reed, i can get a loud, full altissimo. You just have not to bite 😉 Great work! I highly recommend this mouthpiece (also with the Power RIng). The Ring is the perfect Ligature for this mouthpiece.

PURE JOY

The DV was gold plated, and I hope this doesn't offend you, but I had it silver plated to match my sax and Power Ring. This thing plays like a beast straight out of the box!! I didn't expect that I would be able to play it yet, but I was so mistaken, I felt right at home with it after just a matter of minutes. Wow! the bottom end was so immediately accessible and full-bodied, and I had so much control over pitch all the way to the high C second octave (I'm not at the altissimo zone just yet). So flexible and so, what's the word? chameleon-like, I guess. It morphs from one genre to the other, allowing me to express accurately, all the tonal inflections of whatever style of music I am playing. I feel really unrestrained, really liberated, and it fosters creativity and lively playing far beyond where I thought I was at. Anyhoooo... take care Jody, and thank you so much for the passion you put into Jody Jazz, as it facilitates the magic we are all trying to find in our music. This wonderful DV mouthpiece has done so much for me in a short time, and without any doubt, it takes me to Heaven every time I play. I couldn't ask for anything more in my life. A life without passion is not a life. regards PaulKind regards, Paul Sellick

It’s so much easier to blow, my embouchure is much more relaxed, and my breath problem has gone.

"Recently got this new mouthpiece following Jody’s recommendation, and wow, what a difference ! I had been playing on a different brand 5* mouthpiece, but struggled with a tight embouchure and needing to exhale before taking a breath. I was happy with the tone, but it was too hard blowing for any length of time. With the JodyJazz HR* mouthpiece and a slightly stronger reed, the tone is just as good, but it’s like playing a different instrument, - it’s so much easier to blow, my embouchure is much more relaxed, and my breath problem has gone. I can't believe what I was missing without this mouthpiece.

"My first reaction to playing the DV was that I couldn't believe how full it sounded for being a metal mouthpiece! Up until now I had always associated metal mouthpieces with being harsh and shrill, but that is not the case with the DV. It has the perfect balance of lushness and edge to allow me to play a wide variety of music. I find myself playing mostly rock nowadays and the DV has given me the extra horsepower to really cut without sacrificing my tone. It is worth every penny! Jody and his team were amazing with setting up a trial for me and I can't recommend enough that others set one up if they aren't sure what to purchase. Jody was not kidding in his YouTube videos; you really have to play the DV yourself to believe it!"

Jody recommended the JET for my tenor and I absolutely love this thing!

He recommended the Jet for my tenor and I absolutely love this thing. I am sounding great, my notes are clear as can be, I am motivated to study and practice more. I also use the Power Ring which gives me a whole new feel. Very dynamic, POWERFUL but outstanding in the low register

"I was looking for a versatile mouthpiece for my Mark VI. I was looking for something that can play quiet (especially in the low register / subtones) but also bright, edgy and loud. After researching for a while I narrowed down my options to DV CHI and SUPER JET, but where I live (Tokyo) is not that easy to find this kind of high end mouthpieces. So I answered to the 6 questions in the JodyJazz website and the next day Jody himself contacted me recommending a couple of distributors in Japan. I was able to try a few other JodyJazz models, but the Super Jet is what I was looking for: very dynamic, POWERFUL but outstanding in the low register as well. Great sound and awesome altissimo! I am extremely satisfied! I ordered a silver power ring as I prefer that kind of ligature."

...a masterpiece, easy blowing, nice and dark sound without projection compromise.

After several email exchanges with Jody giving me bits of advice and hints to find out a mouthpiece that suits me on my Conn 10M, I've finally chosen the Custom Dark. The reason is simple: the sound is terrific! It is a masterpiece, easy blowing, nice and dark sound without projection compromise. At last, this mouthpiece allows me to be in tune with my vintage saxophone. If you are a Conn 10M player and experience intonation problems with small chamber or modern mouthpieces, don't miss this out. The custom dark is the solution!

Ask and you shall receive with the HR* Clarinet 7!

"This mouthpiece took me a couple days to figure out. Now I can say that when I ask for something it delivers. When I ask for the warm, sensuous wood subtends they are there right away. When I want to go from smooth and flowing to quick and choppy it just happens. When a feeling hits me and I want to hear it I can right away. This mouthpiece takes more control than most of the ones I've tried. With good application of air, shape, and pressure it delivers from a very broad library of sound. There is not a situation that I can think of where this mouthpiece would be out of its element."

The BEST Bright Mouthpiece on the Market.

The SUPER JET by far is the best quality for the money mouthpiece in the metal bright category. Altissimo notes are effortless, it has more power than you could possibly need but never becomes shrill like some famous vintage pieces in the same category. It also has an amazing amount of warmth and body if you want. If your trying for that David Sanborn or Gerald Albright type of sound this will get you as close as it can the rest... well that’s up to you. Way to go Jody you hit this one out of the park and into the Hudson.

The SUPER JET allows you to cut through a "plugged in" band (electric guitar, bass, drums)!

"The Super Jet does exactly what it was designed to do for the sax -- it allows you to really cut through a 'plugged in' band (electric guitar, bass, drums) or a loud brassy band. However, you can still achieve a controlled sound if you need to blend in. As advertised, this mouthpiece produces a very bright & focused sound throughout the entire register of the sax. Furthermore, I've been able to reach the altissimo register much more easily with the Super Jet. It's just been a blast to play on! The most valuable part of my experience with investing in a new mouthpiece has been the fantastic customer service from JodyJazz. Despite having success with adjusting to this mouthpiece on my alto sax, my first attempts with trying the Super Jet (7*) on my tenor didn't go quite as well. After emailing the company, Jody Espina (the founder, president, & designer) actually contacted me, & spent his time figuring out the best way to solve my dilemma. Along with providing some very valuable advice regarding embouchure adjustments, he sent me three mouthpieces to try out. Ultimately, I exchanged the Super Jet 7* for a 6. The entire JodyJazz crew have been incredibly understanding & helpful, & the return/exchange process was seamless. I highly recommend doing business with this company. They truly care about helping musicians find the right product for their needs!" Wendy Kristen Leber, Seattle, WA

The DV is a phenomenal mouthpiece but the thing that really sold me was the great support

"I'm a relatively novice player, even though I've been playing for 5 years. I saw Jody on the McGill School video and decided to upgrade my mouthpiece. After filling out the "6 Questions" and exchanging a series of emails and phone calls with Jody and his staff. I picked out two hard rubber mouthpieces. They played great but then I decided to try out the DV. I had long conversations with various members of Jody's staff. They were professional, knowledgeable, and extremely patient with me, answering every question. The DV is a phenomenal mouthpiece. Even with my mediocre playing, the sound is so much better and it is so much easier to play the DV than any other mouthpiece I've tried. And did I mention that it is a beautiful piece of art. The DV is great but the thing that really sold me was the great support I got from the JodyJazz team. I highly recommend them to any player, amateur or professional."

Indeed after playing it for more than 6 months now, I can say that it is by far the best mouthpiece I have played/owned! Thank you Jody for making these mouthpieces! Better "equipment" does make a difference!

I received the Power Ring as part of a promotion to try out some Jody Jazz mouthpieces. I was pleased with the richer sound from the mouthpiece I purchased (the HR* Alto 6m) and was surprised to also notice a favorable improvement from the new ligature. I have only been playing for three years so I have a long way to go but better "equipment" does make a difference!

Great personalized service and advice

I played sax as a kid and kept my 1948 Selmer SBA alto saxophone, though I did little else with it, through 50-years of school and work--just taking it up again with renewed passion and discipline when I retired earlier this year. As I began to improve--learning blues scales and jazz techniques for the first time, with the help of great interactive internet instructional resources--I came across an online interview with Jody Espina about saxophone mouthpieces and realized that I was still playing with my original student mouthpiece from 55 years ago. So I went to the JodyJazz website, answered the six questions designed to help sax players choose the right mouthpiece, and got a great informative commentary from Jody in response, recommending that I try two JodyJazz mouthpieces: the HR*6 and the JET6. I was pleased with the 3-week trial and return policy and even more pleased when, after practicing with both mouthpieces, I emailed a question about how I felt my embouchure was working differently with each and, within two days, got an insightful personal response from Jody along with a link to another of his videos to help me both make the right mouthpiece choice and maximize the fit between the mouthpiece and my playing style. I'm excited about playing with my new mouthpiece (and the elegant Power RIng ligature that I got for the JET. Great product, great knowledgeable and personal service. Thanks, JodyJazz.

Great Product! Great Service!

"Had a chance to hear about JodyJazz product during recent Sax School presentation and was intrigued to try the product after hearing from Jody. When I called the business line to discuss more I was blown away by the service and simple explanations provided that helped me with my purchase. I was able to try three different mouthpieces and two different ligatures while only being charged for a fraction down. I kept the product I wanted and returned the rest and the final pricing was adjusted. I even had the opportunity to speak with Jody "the man" himself, which was an honor. What great service! Oh, and I love your product! The DV Tenor Sax 6 was just what I needed and has helped me tremendously round out my sound while providing plenty of growth room for me. I absolutely love the power ring ligature and don't know how the "rest of the sax world" lives without it. lol. You have won my loyalty and I look forward to continuing to give you my business in the future while recommending you to all that I can. Thank you."

Great for a returning player and better match for my skill.

"I was initially drawn to the DV CHI, but after answering the 6?s, Jody steered me towards the DV "BEATBoX" as a better match for my skill. I am so grateful he took the time to do so, because this mouthpiece is amazing for me. As someone who played when younger but is only just returning to the saxophone after some time away from music due to life getting in the way, it is great to have a mouthpiece that allows me to grow as a musician, and will still be a great match as I recover my skills and hopefully continue to improve past where I was before."

HR* CUSTOM DARK Alto is super easy to play

"I picked this mouthpiece up locally after trying out another. It has a beautiful resonance to the tone that I just love. It growls more easily than any other mouthpiece in my collection. Super easy to play, pretty much no effort at all. Between the sound and how easy it is to play I don't want to put my sax down ever again. It didn't come with any kind of ligature otherwise I would give it a 5 star rating, so I threw on my Rovner and it was off to the races. The sound is easy to manipulate from super quiet and dark to screaming away. I really appreciate the breath of tone available and it is now my favorite mouthpiece on both the Alto as well as the Tenor. I actually got the one for the tenor first and loved it so I thought I'd give it a try on Alto and have no regrets at all. Looking forward to many hours ahead on this mouthpiece."

"Made a huge difference"

"Changed to the #7 HR* this from a Yamaha 4C as a standard student progression, had a few issues at first with tuning the sax but Jody himself (great guy) replied to an email and suggested moving to a softer reed (from a #3 on the Yamaha to a #2 on the HR*) to start with. That was all it took, this is an amazing upgrade to the sax, a much fuller sound and one that I am very very happy I made. I also have a Jet #6 for alto and had similar trouble at the start, again a move from the #3 to a #2 reed was all it needed to get a start and to gain confidence in the mouthpiece, unbelievable the difference the mouthpiece has made to the sound of the sax. Thanks to Jody!"

The sound of love

"I bought this mouthpiece after researching extensively. I have a decent collection going but was still looking for something that wasn't there yet. The local shop I got it from gave me a 30 day period to try it out and return it if I didn't like it so I took it home and set it up to play. Right off the bat I fell in love. It is super easy to play in all registers including the altissimo range. There is no need to push to get those really high notes, I find they come quite naturally now. The sound across the entire range though is what really hit me. It is a super warm tone that really brings out the natural fuzziness that distinguishes a woodwind from a brass instrument. I find it naturally gives what many might describe as a classic New York sound. When I push the mouthpiece I find it cuts easily and I can get really aggressive with my sound. It also responds nicely to growling for that really dirty sax sound that so many people love in rock. The mouthpiece didn't come with a ligature so I threw my Rovner Dark on and it worked out well. That first night I played for a solid three hours pretty much continuously and only stopped because I'd reached a point where I couldn't feel most of my mouth. This mouthpiece makes me want to pick up my sax pretty much constantly. I am looking forward to spending a lot of time getting to know it and exploring every little sound I can get out of it. Thank you for producing such a beautiful mouthpiece."

Everyone's reed setup experience is different

"At first I thought I absolutely hated this mouthpiece, but the main reason was due to having to thick of reeds. Vandoren 3.5 reeds aren't the best choice for a tip opening of 6 after playing on a 4. Danielle Walker... Outstanding customer service!

"Mr. Espina, Congratulations on your company’s 20th anniversary. Old-school personal customer service meets the computer age. Mouthpieces need to be compared and you make that EASY, three at a time. My repair guy recommended you, so I went online and heard Jay Metcalf compare five of your pieces from the dark HR*, the free-blowing DV, to the bright Super Jet. Dude can play. I also see that Tom Scott is now playing DVs on his alto and soprano, and Super Jet on tenor. Freakin’ Tom Scott! I have played your HR*, DV, and Super Jet. It is amazing how different they all are. The HR* is perfect for a student upgrade or pros specializing in longhair. It has a dark controlled classical sound. I could have used this back in college. The DV is a hardbop Big Dog. It sounds like Cannonball with enough power to blow with the big band trumpet guys. The Super Jet is a heavy metal bebop cannon. When the guitar player turns it up to 11, the Super Jet will still cut like a laser. I prefer the DV 8 on alto. The real reason for my letter is to give props to your Accounts Manager, Danielle Walker. After I submitted your “6 questions” online, Danielle promptly responded with a recommendation for my needs. When I called her, she continued to offer her valued opinions about your lineup. She made the whole process easy, and very personable. I wanted to try a few different lays of DV and Super Jet. Your 3-week return policy allows for the process. Easy. Amazing to do business from Georgia to California. My VI tenor restoration will be done, 12 November. And my Berg 110/2 is not responsive and cannot compete with your lineup. So, I will again call Danielle to upgrade my tenor sound. Continued success." Paul R Pettit Fair Oaks, CA

The shape of the beak is very comfortable for my jaw position. So much so that I decided to try the HR Custom Dark for tenor. I had previously only been able to play my tenor for very short time periods before my TMJ issue became too painful. I was hoping that the beak shape for the tenor was similar to the alto. Beautiful sound with plenty of rich overtones. Very responsive mouthpiece.

"I purchased a Levantine bass (made by Jin Bao- a copy of Selmers super action 80 series II bass) from Amazon for a song. It was their last bass sax in stock and I think they wanted rid of it. It came via UPS undamaged and with the keys corked. I play tested it with the Selmer s90 210 mouthpiece I use on my Selmer super action 80 series I baritone. Bass sax pads popped and it was a actually set up nice. While the bass sang in upper register the low notes were hard to voice. I’m friends with JodyJazz Artist Tim Price. He encouraged me to try JodyJazz. I’m glad I tried the JodyJazz DV Bass 6 mouthpiece . Low notes were easier to voice. Intimation was great. The sax had played slightly flat on the selmer S90 mouthpiece. Beautiful sound with plenty of rich overtones. Very responsive mouthpiece. I have another baritone a low Bb Rampone and Cazzani R1 jazz. Big bore and long neck. The Rampone plays best on large chamber mouthpieces . I tried the JodyJazz DV Bass 6 on it. It’s the best the baritone has ever sounded. Playing Gerry mulligan music with the Rampone baritone and the DV Bass 6 was incredible . Very full beautiful sound. So I got my money’s worth and then some. I can use the mouthpiece on 2 instruments, 3 if I use it on the Selmer baritone. And yes, I agree with Jody harder reeds can be used. I used a Rico royal 3 1/2 and the mouthpiece responded effortlessly. Thanks for a great product Jody!"

The best playing mouthpiece I own. Nothing I have ever played blows as easy with as gorgeous a tone.

"All I can say is the HR* 7M I recently purchased is the best playing mouthpiece I own. I have several very good mouthpieces and they all play reasonably well, but nothing I have ever played blows as easy with as gorgeous a tone as my new HR*. I also bought the POWER RING ligature. It is a fantastic combination. Frankly, I would love to have a DV, but I am retired and I watch my budget. I also have every intention of buying an HR* Tenor 5* for my tenor along with the POWER RING ligature. I had written that I have a lung condition (COPD) and the way this mouthpiece blows I don't feel any restriction in my lungs. I had been playing on an Otto Link super Tone Master 5, a Vandoren AL4 Optimum, and a Meyer medium chamber with a Rovner ligature. After about 30 minutes I had to stop playing as I would run out of air and become dizzy. I have yet to have to stop with my HR*. I just keep playing and playing. All I have to say is a big thank you for coming up with such a fantastic mouthpiece." Stuart Carlin - Douglasville, Ga.

“I tried the Jody Jazz HR Custom Dark 8* tenor piece that Arnie Krakowsky got from you and I thought it was great! I loved the dark sound and how free blowing it was, I also dug the POWER RING ligature that was with it! It reminded me of an old Link that I bought 60 years ago. I was a teenager, and an older cat that I respected, said to me, “we don’t play a mouthpiece that is so open in the sax section”. (I don’t remember the facing but it was a very free- blowing piece!) Blew the competition out of the water.

Greetings Jody. I just wanted you to know that recently I had the opportunity to demo the JodyJazz HR* Alto 5M mpc against a Theo Wanne NY Bros 2 Alto mpc # 5. I can relate to you and your team now my personal evaluation is that the JodyJazz HR* Alto 5M blew the Theo NY Bros out of the water. I find that the JodyJazz HR* Alto piece was powerful, had great projection, bright, warm, free blowing, modern sound, and beautiful rails! I am very happy with it ( it's a keeper ). I also have a JodyJazz HR* on my Soprano and a JodyJazz SUPER JET Tenor 7, all play very well! I recently sent out my SUPER JET Tenor 7 to be checked and the mouthpiece technician who plotted the curve commented to me that each side of the rail curve was perfect and that it played very well. Keep up the great work!

As soon as I blew the first note through the Super JET, I was instantly in love.

"Just got my new 8* Super JET for tenor. I had high expectations and they were completely blown out of the water. This is hands down the best mouthpiece I have ever played on. I had been playing on an Otto Link 7* for years. As soon as I blew the first note through the Super JET, I was instantly in love. The clarity in my tone has reignited a passion I hadn't realized I lost. I literally jumped up and down I was so happy 😂 Great work Jody Jazz!!! Also, do yourself a favor and go buy this mouthpiece. Like now. Why are you still reading?"

WOW!!! The Super Jet is incredible!!!

WOW!!! The Super Jet is incredible!!! I wanted to make sure It was great right of the bat but when I to the softer reeds …Holy *%$#$@!! Was exactly what flew out of my mouth. I used it on three gigs, one loud fast and high funky blues gig and then two quiet type of gigs. I was worried about being able to play quiet not having played on it for very long but it was fine. I felt like I was driving a Ferrari and if you just barley step on the accelerator, it takes off!

Have tried others recently but nothing beats the Super Jet.

I have been playing my Super Jet for almost a year and I can't tell you how happy I am with it. It is a surprising good match with my Conn 6M. Jody, the work you guys are doing with saxophone mouthpieces is fantastic.

Jody, the work you guys are doing with saxophone mouthpieces is fantastic. I recently purchased the Jody Jazz Jet Alto & Jody Jazz Jet 6 Tenor saxophone mouthpieces which are very easy to blow and has excellent projection, and I am totally in love with both! I live in an apartment complex and I don't have to blow hard to produce a sound, amazing! I've played Dukoff, Otto Link, Brilhart, Vandoren V16 for Tenor and more and none of them tops your mouthpieces! Someday I will puchase the DV New York model for my darker sounds. Thanks Jody, Darrell E. Myles * and by the way, I was convinced through your YouTube videos

Just received the mouthpiece today and instantly started playing it. This is by far the best mouthpiece I have every played. I didn't think it was possible to improve on the JodyJazz Jet... But this... The JodyJazz Super Jet Tenor has far exceeded my expectations. Just like the the JodyJazz Jet it has the nice bottom end, but the precision and design up into altissimo truly make this JodyJazz Super Jet Tenor. Thank you!

Thank you for helping me to begin my journey toward fulfilling a dream.

"Good day. I hope this email finds its way to Jody. He will with all likelihood have zero remembrance of me; zero. At the age of 53, I began taking music lesson here in CT and learning to read music. At approx. 22 months, I purchased my Yamaha, Custom EX and began researching mouthpieces. At some point I emailed Jodyjazz with questions and to my surprise, I received a phone call from Jody. In part, because of that call, I became a customer and purchased the DV for tenor. Rather recently, I purchased the DV Chi. You should know, that the customer service when I purchased my DV Chi was also outstanding. Other than the mouthpiece that came with the horn, Jodyjazz is the only mouthpiece I have ever owned. I thought you'd like to know, that this summer, with 4 years of training I entered a new jazz competition and subsequently became the first winner, of the Hartford Jazz Society's Emerging Jazz Artist competition (2017). I will begin my 5th year of training in February 2018 and as you know, I have a lot to learn, but I will be doing it with my JodyJazz mouthpiece.; Thank you for helping me to begin my journey toward fulfilling a dream. “What a Masterpiece”,

"Hi from the UK, I have just purchased your HR* 7 Bari mouthpiece and had to contact you to say “What a Masterpiece”, a pure joy to play on. I have played Baritone Sax since around 1963, mainly using hard rubber Berg Larsens on 1930’s Conn X-Bar horns. Ten years back I sold my instruments but recently purchased a 1933 Conn Bari. Saw your clip on YouTube and bought one via Gear4music, UK. Many thanks for this inspired easy blowing Baritone Mouthpiece, and your highly skilled dedicated craftspeople. I intend to let my Sax playing friends know about this. Very best wishes for future success and prosperity, Alan Sandilands."

.... everything plays more in tune and more stably from top to bottom.

This mouthpiece has completely revolutionized what I'm able to achieve with my bass saxophone. I was using a metal bari link #9 before and I had to use really soft synthetic reeds to get the sound I wanted. Now I can use proper cane reeds that are a more normal strength with the DV Bass mouthpiece, and everything plays more in tune and more stably from top to bottom. I wouldn't give this mouthpiece up for anything now! https://youtu.be/zUzFS46uQa0?t=266

Thank you for such an awesome Mouthpiece!!!

Hi Jody, My name is Ed Beleck and several months back I purchased a Jet mouthpiece from you. I just recently held a jam session at our house for all the neighbors in our neighborhood and this was the first gig I have played out with the mouthpiece since I purchased it and the response was unbelievable!!! I had numerous people afterward come over to me and say how much they loved the sound. I know the player makes the sound but at the same time, a mouthpiece is huge contributor to that. I just wanted to take a moment and say Thank you for such an awesome Mouthpiece!!! It plays through all the scales with ease and sounds so clear. You definitely have a fan for life. With that said could I please request an autograph Jody? it would truly mean a lot to me. Thank you in advance and look forward to hearing from you. Keep up the great work!!! Sincerely, Ed Beleck

held intonation perfectly from one end of the horn to the other.

Dear Jody Jazz Team..... a week ago I received my new Jody Jazz DV for Tenor Sax along with the Power Ring Ligature. I LOVE IT. Here's some information you may find helpful. Using a reed that is "perfect" for your old mouthpiece probably won't work. After soaking my new reeds I found it very helpful to aggressively rub the taper on the reed to "seal" the fibers. Then gently bending the reed between my thumb and fore finger loosened it up for the initial playing. Finally, firmly pressing the reed onto the mouthpiece while tightening the Power Ring also made a big difference. The bottom line here is that if you don't work to get a good reed on this setup you may be frustrated with what can be an almost too bright (brassy) sound or one that is hard to control. With the proper reed, however, you very quickly master this phenomenal mouthpiece to create what ever sound you are looking for. Finally, I've never had a setup that held intonation perfectly from one end of the horn to the other.... a feature you need to market more aggressively). I play a Big Bell, Stone Series Cannonball, use Vandoren Jazz reeds (red and green) and do both solo and band work. I can use this tool to blend within a section or stand up for solo work and cut through any background. If you ever have a potential customer who is unsure if the cost of this setup is worth it, I'd be happy to offer a testimony. Thanks again for offering such a wonderful product.

This is what I have been missing!

Jody and Company, I am a 42 year-old-dog learning new tricks. I have played the guitar and bass for over 20 years and have always loved the saxophone. Last year, I took the plunge and adventure of being a horn player. The last year has been full of ups and downs, frustrations of a new instrument I assume. Regardless, I have kept pushing. I recently ordered an HR*, 7* and instantly fell in love. This is what I have been missing! My Otto Link and stock mouthpiece may never see the light of day again. I have had your HR* for a week and my practicing has gone from "ugh" to " bring it on!". I must also tell you why I chose to purchase a Jody Jazz mouthpiece. In my research or quest.for a new mouthpiece I watched a video of Jody describing his story and that he felt a player should 'be able to play with every breath'. And I agree because I found myself spending so much time focusing on how to make this horn sound well. Additionally, the HR* being one of the top sellers I figured it was worth the investment. Come to find out, it is well worth the investment. Thank you, thank you, thank you I look to adding the GIANT next. Thanks again Patrick Edwards

Great sound, fabulously well in tune from octave to octave. .Also Power Ring is a revelation.

About six months ago I got one of your CHI tenor mouthpieces. After a certain amount of woodshedding with it I was very please indeed. Great sound, fabulously well in tune from octave to octave. Recently a bass player pointed out that you'd started making a ring ligature specially fitted to your mouthpieces, and he suggested I give it try. The ligature arrived a few hours ago, and it's a revelation. Not only do the lowest notes speak far easier than they ever have before, but the shrillness at the top is gone as well. The tone is consistent from top to bottom and beautiful throughout. You really should just up the price of the mouthpiece a bit and sell them with these ligatures. I don't think anybody would ever tell you it wasn't worth the money. All the best, Cork, Ireland

Improved intonation on palm keys and higher. Truly a great mpc.

"Jody Just purchased a Tenor DV and an HR mpc for my late model Mark VI from wwbw. I want to share my experience with you. I use the HR when playing along with my sax students but the DV is for me. Like most sax players the perfect mpc is the holy grail............I know you've heard this many times. I was reluctant to switch from my Sugal which I've played for years but was frustrated with a weak low end and inconsistent altisimo. So I gambled and tried your 7* DV which is not as open as my Sugal at 118. But I wanted a fatter and more reliable low end. The DV came through. It took a little experimenting with reeds. My broken in reeds didn't play very well and I realized that a stiffer reed was required. I'm using Alexander and Rico Jazz #3. They do the job. I do a smooth/contemporary jazz gig and the projection is great and amazingly the speed of my playing has greatly improved. The notes seem to pop out almost before I hit them. The stuffiness of middle D is gone. I thought it was a leak in the horn or just the nature of my "VI". But I now have a solid middle D !! I'm also discovering improved intonation on palm keys and higher. Truly a great mpc. For the HR I found a good set up using Alexander NY reeds. It's a sweet mpc, very versatile, but I need to spend more time with it. Regards"

The tone is vibrant and extremely responsive

This latest release from Jody Jazz reveals a much more intelligent mouthpiece, a step-up from its previous incarnation, the Classic. Taking its design technology from the DV and made from a special polycarbonate alloy, the all-new JET sounds whizzy and exciting, and to be fair, it is! It won’t cost the progressing student a fortune to advance on to one of these pieces, but it will give the player a natural increase in volume, but without an increase in resistance. The tone is vibrant and extremely responsive – it is baffled sufficiently to give the sound a brightness and a lift at a medium airflow or beyond. If you’re looking to get into pop gigs/fusion stuff/rock n roll this piece should be considered – it won’t cost you as much as a Dukoff but it most likely is more consistently made!!

"Dear Jody: I just received the DV NY #6 Tenor mouthpiece I ordered and it gives me exactly what I'm looking for; a big sound with minimum effort. After all, at age 70, one doesn't have a great deal of excess wind-power and energy. The response throughout the horn is great, but I'm amazed at the response in the lower range. I've never been able to "get" below a "D" without really attacking the note; not a good thing for ballads. With your DV NY, I'm able to get 'em all and play tunes I've resisted playing in the past. Lastly, while the mouthpiece amplifies the brightness of my new Yanagisawa 992, it's absolutely wonderful on my "old friend", a 1953 "The Martin" tenor. As in life, sometimes old friends are best"

It sounds beautiful, dark, traditional but with some edge when you push it

It's fantastic!

Hi Jody, This is Matt Renzi. Just wanted to drop you a line about the Hard Rubber '8' piece you laid on me last May when I came down to the factory with George Garzone. It's fantastic and I've been using it the whole time since then (recorded 6 CDs with it so far!) The latest one that's gonna come out is my CD "Lunch Special" I put a track up off that CD for you to check out on my site ... It's called 'Circolazione.' Thanks, and I'll talk to you soon.

The 7* played so good I had to keep it, nice job man!

Hey Jody! Just a quick note, apparently Ritchie Perez contacted you and you sent two pieces to him an 8* and a 7*. Well, got the chance to play 'em, the 7* played so good I had to keep it, nice job man! I've got a couple of killer hand faced hr pieces(Link, Brihart Ebolin from the 50s) and I gotta say your piece plays as good as those. Can you tell me if these are stock pieces or did ya hand pick these? They play great, would highly recommend to students and anyone looking for a good hr piece. Anyway, I'm definitely set for a hr piece, thanks man, be cool! By the way, the 8* was a touch big and lost the sizzle of the 7* but a nice piece as well.

It is a masterpiece!

"I just got the mouthpiece yesterday after about a week of searching for the right mouthpiece. WOW! What a difference! I'm a high school student in a jazz band and sax quartet and have been looking for this sound since I started playing, round, rich, big, and above all, easy to play even with worn out, several month old reeds. I tried it out in a music store against 3 others which are now irrelevant - I was sold from my first note! The HR* is not only a mouthpiece, it is a masterpiece!"

The HR* piece, the sound is much louder, more focused, and brighter (in a good way).

Dear Jody, On your recommendation I tried the HR* 6*, 7, and 7*. I kept the 7, and I love it! My sound on my Otto Link 6* hard rubber is somewhat stuffy and very dark, to the point where my sound was jokingly described by my teacher as a "warm blanket." Comforting, but not attention-grabbing. With the HR* piece, the sound is much louder, more focused, and brighter (in a good way). The tonal center of each note is more "solid", while the overall timbre is delightful and complex. I really love it! Thanks for making a great mouthpiece. I will definitely recommend your products to others. Sincerely, Michael

Hey Jody, I just wanted to update you on the HR I recently purchased. I recently tried Rico Jazz Selects size 2H on it and by far this is the best sound I have achieved, it's the clearest sound, it projects amazingly but maintains particular control and true fat sound, this is the definition of versatile, and while matching my needs for what it does to make me unique. it is stunning. It is the exact sound I am looking for, for straight-ahead jazz.

Hi there, Jody. I just wanted to thank you. As a working professional, I have tried every mouthpiece out there, and have grown skeptical of the claims of "vintage" sound from new mouthpieces, and especially the "vintage rubber" claims. Consistent workmanship is also hard to find. I am amazed at how many mouthpieces I have tried that arrive with uneven rails or chips in the chamber. You have been responsive, professional, and extremely helpful. The HR* alto 8M arrived today, and it is stunning. It is the exact sound I am looking for, for straight-ahead jazz. Wow- way to go, and thanks for striving for great quality pieces. The wide range of tip openings is really helpful, too- I play open pieces, and all those vintage ones are on the opposite side of the spectrum.

I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase...worth every penny and more.

"Dear Jody, I wanted to compliment you an express my utmost appreciation for the fine craftmanship of your new DV bass sax mouthpiece that I received on new year's eve. I've been playing on a Mason silver metal mouthpiece with my almost new selmer bass sax, which was a step up from the Selmer and Runyon modified mouthpieces. Kudos to you. I didn't know what to expect since a bass sax metal mouthpiece is a rarity for this esoteric instrument. With your JodyJazz bass sax metal mouthpiece, I played every note in each octave quite smoothly and accurately without any resistance or unwanted effects. The range of sounds the Giant can produce is remarkable.

"The tone was very focused and with a little push sounded like an incredibly good metal Otto Link. The range of sounds the Giant can produce is remarkable. The Giant was absolutely stellar on the jazz gigs and held up quite well on the loud stuff considering it is not a "paint peeler" The response and tone were even in all registers, and articulation was nice and clean. And thats not all: The altissimo range absolutely killed. It's a truly unique product, combining elements of both hard-rubber and metal pieces in a way that could appeal to players of either camp. It plays like crazy. Whether you prefer hard-rubber or metal, check out the GIANT - there really is nothing else quite like it out there." Steve Eisen - Downbeat Magazine

Thing played soo incredible right off the bat, I almost had to take myself home n' have my way with me I sounded so good! On the mic, it's a big, fat juicy sound, in tune, perfect blend of warmth with edge. So far I've taken it up to altissimo E(E4) but I suspect it'll pop out F4,G4 and maybe A4. My motivation to play now is through the roof, and, I am finding that I am really not that bad of a player after all!!!

" Jody and staff, I have been playing the DV CHI 7* for about an hour now, and you can forget the two week trial period, you are never getting this piece back!!! It's like I have a new horn and a new sound, playing with ease! I play an early 60's Strasser Marigoux that I have been battling for years, with a Dukoff D7, I thought it was me, that I just did not play enough, or the horn. The guys at the repair shop swore to me it was a sweet horn, no Mark VI or Balanced Action, but a pretty sweet horn indeed. Until now I had many doubts. The sound I am getting from the DV CHI is instantly better, all of the notes come out with ease, I used to worry when playing live that certain notes would not come out, lower register and sometimes the middle D was extremely weak. When playing jazz tunes such as "Turnaround", dropping an octave from middle D to A, it was never certain how well it would come out. The DV CHI has changed that completely, it drops clear and precise every time. Just want to thank you for creating such an amazing piece, without it, I had no motivation to play, the sound was not what I thought it should be and hitting certain notes was always a struggle. This old horn sounds amazing with your DV CHI on it and the notes seem to now come out almost to easy. I have even moved from Rico 2.5, to Rico Jazz 3M that you sent with piece, instantly, my old mouthpiece pretty much refused to move up to a stronger reed. This is incredible, my motivation to play now is through the roof, and, I am finding that I am really not that bad of a player after all!!! Thank you again, Chas "

I don't think I've ever played a mouthpiece that was that wonderful-

I don't think I've ever played a mouthpiece that was that wonderful- you could tell that there was an incredible amount of attention to detail in the piece. There isn't a flaw in it! The first thought that came to my head was, "This is the first time I've felt so comfortable from the first note, that I could possibly take it to a gig and be totally fine, from the bottom to the top of my horn." So, I did. Took the piece out on a gig last night here in Charlotte, NC and with no issue whatsoever, I played the gig probably better than I ever have before (I've played this gig every Tuesday that I've been home since I was 14 years old). What can I say? Nothing less than incredible."

Seriously, I've owned them all and I've never played anything like the DV series. What I particularly appreciate is the effortless response and huge rich sound that comes out of these pieces. I'm always receiving wonderful comments about my sound. With the DV CHI, you nailed it again. The first time I tried this piece, I stood speechless. The sound of the DV CHI simply put is "amazing." Effortless and soooo comfortable as usual, with a big, rich, deep sound (not too bright; not too dark) with incredible projection and a wonderful resonance and yet a nice smoothness to the sound. No shrillness whatsoever. Seriously this piece will cover all genre's from mainstream jazz to blues to R&B, etc. The workmanship is second to none, tips and rails are absolute perfection and I'm giddy for having had the opportunity to get one so early. I've owned so many pieces over the years and this has got to be the best I've ever played. Im not sure it can get any better. Thank you so much again for your kindness and time. impressive ease of response and control, probably second to none.

"Dear Jody, Thanks for giving me the extended test period for the mouthpiece. I used the last days for intensive testing. The first impression was a bit ambivalent or almost disappointing. On one hand there was the impressive ease of response and control, probably second to none. However, on the other hand the sound seemed to me lacking of , of edge, of "smokey air" sound that I always liked on my Dukoff M8 so far (on a Yani 9930). Fortunately I've got recording options at home and so I recorded 2 songs with your MP and the Dukoff. The result I have to admit was quite surprising for me. Where the Dukoff showed indeed some very nice colours in certain ranges the JJ was remarkably more even over the whole range, perhaps not as spectacular as the M8 but at the bottom line more mature and very pleasant in the mix. Less compression was required in the mix since the JJ didn't break out in any range. One more evidence that our instruments sound for our audience (or for the mic) slightly different to what we hear when we play it! Summarized, the ease of control together with "love on second sight" of the sound I decided to keep it and make it a new friend 🙂 However, I found out that I need most likely harder reeds for the JJ. With the Dukoff M8 I used to play Rico La Voz medium-hard or Vandoren jaZZ 3. Your MP came with a Rico Jazz select 3. Was that just coincidence? I never played this type before and I liked it but it was still a bit to soft for me. What would be your recommendation? I know it's an individual thing but since it is so difficult to get a selection of various reeds in different strength here in Bangkok I would appreciate your recommandation very much. btw. The ring is really a good invention - as simple as it is. It reminds me a bit to the old technique on German clarinet MPs of drawing a string around. Definetely better than the normal ligature. Kind regards from The Land Of Smile Martin."

The best jazz mouthpiece I've ever played. Period.

"The JodyJazz DV Alto mouthpiece is simply the best jazz mouthpiece I've ever played. Period. I also own the HR* from Jody and it's also a fantastic piece. The DV takes the HR* and improves drastically on it. Altissimo is effortless. Intonation is impeccable throughout the range of the instrument. You have all the power in the world and it's huge and full. The thing that impresses me most about the DV, however, is the sound. To me it sounds like a jewel. Just the right amount of edge. It's absolutely the best tone I've ever produced. Thanks Jody for making such a wonderful mouthpiece and you can be assured I'll be coming to you for the next great mouthpiece. Keep up the good work!"

This mouthpiece is absolutely brilliant. It exceeded my expectations.

"Dear Jody I just received the DV7 for Alto from your B STOCK. The package was well put together and the piece looked impeccable. For the last 2 months I have been playing on the JODY JAZZ CLASSIC 6 mouthpiece. Very good but I was missing the bite and the free blowing. When I put the DV7 on my horn, WOW !!!!!!! It called me out and everyone in my home. This mouthpiece is absolutely brilliant. It exceeded my expectations. I am so impressed that I think I will order another one for my Tenor. " Dear Jody, OMG.. I absolutely love it!!! 🙂

" Dear Jody, OMG...I received my mouthpiece last Thursday and, after taking about 10 minutes to get use to it and 5 hours of playing after that, my wife had to come down to the basement both Thursday and Friday nights to tell me to stop playing because it was after 12 midnight. I had a gig Saturday night and both the guitarist and bass player were OMG!!! I happen to have a box of Lavoz med hard reeds I bought a few years ago and, of course you were right, they work perfect with the DV 7*. I am very happy to give up the medium reeds! So thank you for making such a great mouthpiece and I look forward to many years of enjoyment blasting out an awesome sound from my horn! I absolutely love it!!! 🙂 With Kind Regards, Steve Binko "

All the things you say about it on your website are true as far as I'm concerned.

"Dear Sir, I recently bought a JJ DV 8* tenor mouthpiece and it is by far the best mouthpiece I ever played on!(I am 56 and play for about 35 years). What a delight to play. All the things you say about it on your website are true as far as I'm concerned. It is totally free blowing and has an infinite sound and enormous power and projection. Through the whole register there is a rich mixture of fatness and brightness while every single tone keeps its own unique color en 'feel'. When I play something is happening to me, I am in a flow, even my fingers move with great ease, effortless. This sound is me! I'm not a pro and since a bought this mouthpiece I feel frustrated that I can't play all day..... I am grateful to you Mr. Espina and I want to thank you for your dedication, expertise and mastership in developing this mouthpiece (and the others I am sure). I am curious about the other tenormouthpieces, when I am in the shop again I will definitely try them. With kindest regards, Oswald knaap"

It's almost impossible for me to believe that a mouthpiece can make such a difference not just in sound but in ease of playing. BUT IT DOES!

"Dear Mr. Espina, Just wanted to check in so you know that I got my DV from Shawna at Pacific winds Music in Eugene Oregon. I had Hashem, a talented sax player play it using my Bronze Yanagasawi bari. WOW, now I know what the two can do. Being probably 50 older than Hashem, my effort will be considerable less, HOWEVER it is almost impossible for me to believe that a mouthpiece can make such a difference not just in sound but in ease of playing and particularly for old arthritic hands like mine. My joy isn't only in the ease of playing and the sound I now get but from seeing the approving looks on the faces of the "young and not so young bucks" in the band I play in. How sweet to see them enjoying the contribution I am now able to make with this new mouth piece. One trombone player just cannot believe that a mouthpiece can make such a difference - BUT IT DOES! Everything Jim Scimonette Sr. says in his incredible written piece on your web page is something I would have said - were I a musician and not just a player of a bari. Reading through it though I simply kept shaking my head yes, I agree with each of his points. So to move on, I am so happy I decided to give myself an incredible birthday present for my 76th birthday. Can't afford it but the joy it will bring if worth any sacrifice I may have to make. THANK YOU"

I couldn't put my horn down! I love playing the new Jody Jazz DV even more then my Jody ESP!

"Jody, I finally got to seriously play your new Jody Jazz DV Bari Sax Mouthpiece and you are absolutely right...it actually is better than my Jody Jazz ESP Bari Mouthpiece! I couldn't put my horn down! I love playing the new Jody Jazz DV even more then my Jody ESP! This was a huge surprise to me because for the past 4 years I have been strongly convinced that I could never find a baritone sax mouthpiece for me that would ever top my Jody Jazz 120 ESP, and the thought just occurred to me, I think you have more REALLY DIFFERING mouthpiece styles and models for baritone saxophones than anyone else! When you get old like me your mind wanders off the subject...especially when you get excited, the subject being how I like the new Jody Jazz DV Bari Sax Mouthpiece and what I think of it. 1. It blows VERY free. Like none other. It is in a class on its own. No one looking for a professional class baritone saxophone mouthpiece ought to buy anything until they have at least tried one of these. 2. It has a wide accessible range of tonal colors you can change easily and comfortably, and naturally on a dime without needing to swap out mouthpieces for a brighter or darker tone. I love it! 3. It blows acoustically efficient. People who play baritone sax on a regular basis will know what I mean by this. The big baritone saxophone will naturally ?work you? because it is massive size and displacement. With the wrong mouthpiece setup, the Bari sax player can be blowing their guts out with moderately loud bands and they will still be buried. But when you have an "acoustically efficient? Bari mouthpiece your sound projects well without over blowing. Most important, it projects with a big warm sound rather than having to go real ?bright? to be heard. A Jody Jazz DV Bari Sax Mouthpiece with the correct tip opening and reed strength will not be the cause of an exhausted baritone sax player. 4. The baffle is just right. Not too bright not too dark and the baffle design did not mess with intonation. 5. The attention to detail is fantastic! One thing I love to point out to players as I allow them to try your mouthpieces is how exacting and perfect your tolerances are. This is so important because if something bad happens to a mouthpiece like it gets damaged, lost or stolen, the player is not out of the game. It can be replaced! The replacement Jody will be exactly like the former one. We both know having a great mouthpiece is more important to having a great saxophone. I would rather lose the horn than my JodyJazz mouthpieces. If I have a good mouthpiece, I can make any sax sound great. But it will never sound right if you have a bad mouthpiece on a great sax. 6. Did I tell you how cool the new Jody Jazz DV Bari Sax Mouthpiece looks on my bari? It is an Italian thing Jody...everything has to look good too with us Italians. Good work Jody...you are truly amazing."

The sound is fat and strong and what is most impressive is it's ease articulation and clarity to each note. It's the best mouthpiece I now have.

"Hi Jody, I have tested the DV mouthpiece and am very impressed with it so I have sent the ESP mouthpiece back by airmail yesterday. The mouthpiece is everything that you said and more. The sound is fat and strong and what is most impressive is it's ease articulation and clarity to each note.It the best mouthpiece I now have. When I solo it punches through the electrical instruments and kept up to the tenor sax as far as aggression goes. I enjoyed playing the Bari before as a secondary horn but now because of the DV mouthpiece Bari I find that I am getting more requests from fellow musicians to use the Bari. Thanks again I can not express how pleased I am with the mouthpiece. My favorite Tenor mouthpiece I have is the Famous Mouthpiece and Alto mouthpiece is the Famous Mouthpiece. In the new year I would like to try the DV on both of these and compare."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing out of my own horn. The sound was incredible!

"I`ve been playing baritone for many years and have been using a very good custom mouthpiece for some time. For the last eight years I`ve been the baritone player with the Buddy Morrow/Tommy Dorsey band . I`ve always been a section player and because of that my sound and control of the horn in all registers was of prime importance to me and my section leader. Recently I talked to some long time friends that had been using the JodyJazz mouthpiece. I heard good things about the piece from them which prompted me to try one. I couldn`t believe what I was hearing out of my own horn. The sound was incredible if I do say so myself. In all the years I`ve been playing, backing up singers such as Lynn Roberts, Ray Charles, the Temps, Platters, Stevie Wonder, Steve Lippia, Andy Williams, and the incomparable Judy Garland, eight years with the current Tommy Dorsey Orchestra conducted by Buddy Morrow and others too numerous to mention, I can tell you that this is THE mouthpiece to end all mouthpieces. I`m in no way being compensated for this endorsement. I just felt that if I have purchased something as good for my playing as this mouthpiece I should share it with others. Thanks for listening. I`m listening and loving what I hear."

I think the DV is a great mouthpiece for a absolute beginner like me.

Hi Jody, You are right: it's not at all normal for anyone to start off with a JodyJazz DV as his first mouthpiece. You did recommend the JodyJazz Classic & the HR* based on my answers to the "6 Questions" 17 months ago, but I opted for the DV because it looks like a work of art. I think the DV is a great mouthpiece for a absolute beginner like me. It is so easy to blow, and I surprised my tutor by being able to reach high octaves meant for more advanced students. The tone is so good that it inspires you to work on your technique because it rewards you with beautiful sounds (makes a beginner sound like a real pro at times) as your technique improves. One of my fellow music students remarked that my alto sax produces the best tone he has ever heard, and my saxophone tutor ascribed it to my DV mouthpiece. How has the DV mouthpiece affected my progress? Well within 17 months, starting from scratch learning to read music & blowing my first note, practicing an hour or so daily, I progressed enough to play solos in park concerts organized by my music school. Last month I presented two saxophone solos at my daughter's wedding reception in New Zealand & received a standing ovation from her! I'm been invited to play in my music school concert band side by side with the professionals in a coming gala concert, & I'm working hard on it now. I'm definitely going to order the DV NY alto to explore the different dimensions it can offer. All I can say is that my experience as a late-bloomer hobbyist saxophonist has been very fulfilling. I want to thank you for creating the mouthpieces that help make it possible. Thank you.

This mouthpiece has restored the joy of playing Saxophone

Jody, It is February now, and I've been playing on my new Jody Jazz DV-8 since November. This is absolutely the best mouthpiece I have ever played on on any woodwind instrument. Your advertising says that you wanted to create the most efficient mouthpiece possible, and I believe you may have succeeded. The pitch is great. The sound is huge, but not shrill. I can play a delicate ballad, or I can play hard driving funk, jazz, blues or rock and roll tune, all with the same ease of play, and the confidence that I will not be betrayed by the mouthpiece. Articulation is very comfortable and easy to control, and most of the time I simply grab a reed out the box, slap it on, and it plays! This mouthpiece has restored the joy of playing Saxophone (and I've been teaching and playing semi-professionally since 1975). Every time I play on this mouthpiece, in any playing situation (the "pit" for a touring Broadway show, a small club jazz date, lead alto in a contemporary big band, a wedding band, the praise band at church, etc.) I find myself saying, "Man, what a great mouthpiece!" I am very happy with the investment I made in this Jody Jazz mouthpiece, it was worth every penny. Thank you.

Anybody who plays MUSIC should try your mouthpieces!"

"Having already the DV for tenor, I was expecting something very good, but not THAT good. I never had sounded so close to my idol, Johnny Hodges, without effort, when I had spent so much time and energy with many other mouthpieces! More stunning, the ease to change rapidly sound colors or styles (playing like Cannonball or Maceo Parker is also cool from time to time). But OK. I could have somewhat expected that from this mouthpiece, knowing the DV for tenor. .....I would have one comment about your website page concerning the DV. It mentions that anybody who plays modern Jazz should try this mouthpiece. To me, this is not true. Anybody who plays MUSIC should try your mouthpieces!"

Absolutely incredible!!! For the first time in years I find myself counting down the minutes until I can play again.

" Jody, I’m not a pro. I have been playing an alto in church for 29 plus years. I’ve played in small settings and in front of thousands. All loud fun nasty improv and loving it. 20 years ago I bought my first metal mouthpiece and although I loved the bright edgy tone it gave me I hated the lack of control and sacrificing the lower range for the projection in the upper range. I broke down and bought the DV this past weekend and I cannot even begin to express what a delightful experience it has been. Absolutely incredible!!! For the first time in years I find myself counting down the minutes until I can play again. Projection in upper and lower and upper registers. Absolute control soft and loud. Effortless adjustment from bright to dark. I have many friends across the wide world of Pentecost and will be recommending they give it a ride. I have to say that this is not just for the touring pro or weekend warrior but anyone with that loves to play with passion. I’m blown away and wanted to say thanks for your commitment and dedication to producing such an outstanding mouthpiece. "

This is the free-est blowing soprano sax mouthpiece EVER..

"Dear Jody. I will try to contain my list of superlatives so I don't sound like I'm gushing. When I first pulled it out of the packaging, I thought it was perfect in every examination of the workmanship. I put the mouthpiece where you told me to just to where the neck begun to peek through. The pitches were DEAD on bottom to top. This is the free-est blowing soprano sax mouthpiece EVER.. I might end up with a slightly stiffer reed even though this is the most open mouthpiece I have ever used. Jody-YOU are the Leonardo DaVinci of the saxophone mouthpiece. I am glad I didn't wait any longer to try your pieces!!!

Jody, The soprano piece has enabled me to extend my upper register range by a couple notes, and the tenor piece has made the top end of the upper register more solid. I am glad I didn't wait any longer to try your pieces!!! My wife has never liked my soprano playing much, preferring my tenor which has been my main horn, but last night after she heard me on your piece, she said that I sounded really smooth and she liked it. I realized too that it really took the shrillness out of my tone, and is the sound I am looking for on a soprano. Another critical thing about your pieces is that my intonation is better than it's been on both the tenor and soprano. Incredible! Thanks so much for making such great pieces.

more overtones, harmonics and better projection

"Jody- Thanks for the producing the DV Chicago Tenor model- it plays great! I find that there are more overtones, harmonics and better projection in it than ANY of the vintage pieces of all brands that I've been playing. I also feel there's an incredible flexibility and "elasticity" to it which allows me to shape and achieve the sound and color at all dynamic ranges that I'm used to getting with much greater ease- very multi-faceted. I find that just about any reed works right away on it, and the articulation and altissimo is superb. It blends well in the big band stuff I do (traditional or Zappa!), and has a "fat" Dexter quality and "buzz" to it for acoustic jazz. But maybe most of all for the working musician, you no longer have to reach for that "high baffle" piece for the "loud" part of the club date, as the flexibilty in this Chicago piece can be pushed for as much brightness as needed, while still maintaining the perfect blend of treble and mid range that really give a tenor sound that depth and "bottom end". Thanks again; will there be an alto one in the future? "

Fat and rich in harmonics sound from top to the bottom

I feel that the Jody Jazz New CHI Tenor Sax Mouthpiece is one of the best tenor sax mouthpieces now on the market ! Fat and rich in harmonics sound from top to the bottom, absolutely immediate response, friendly with new reeds, very flexible - you can play soft, reaching big fat sub tones as well pushing a lot of air - you can squeeze many colors from your instrument , also I feel that it's very wise to use silver plating because it will bring you more color and timbre, more presence and warmer sound qualities. And to all off that we can add the extraordinary absolutely "Zen" simplicity design at the same time very effective in all sense ligature called " The Ring " also silver plated , I just loved The Ring - My precious 🙂 ! , finally we have a free vibrating and breathing almost speaking reeds. Jody Jazz CHI mouthpiece is pure absolute art and intelligence wisely combined by it's creator Jody Espina with the pure heart and soul.
