Gianni Denitto's Biography

Renowned Italian saxophonist Gianni Denitto has always been fond of jazz, world music, electronics, and sound design improvisations, passions that have led him to explore different genres and seek intersections between them, creating a unique and personal sound in his recordings. Vice-president of MIDJ, the official association of Italian jazz musicians, he has been named among the “10 Italian Jazz Musicians of the Future” by GQ and among the best Italian jazz musicians by Musica Jazz magazine. His latest album, The Shadow Line, was selected among the Top 100 Albums of 2024 by Jazzit Magazine.

He graduated with top honors in both classical music and jazz from the Conservatory of Turin (Italy), and has since collaborated as a performer and composer with major Italian and international organizations, including the European Aquatics Championships 2022, Amazon Italia, RaiPlay, and Eurovision.

Denitto has performed at numerous international festivals and venues, including Band on the Wall (Manchester), Perth Jazz Festival (Australia), Jazzmandu Festival (Nepal), Jazzahead! (Bremen), Opéra de Nice (France), Auditorium Parco della Musica (Rome), Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Mallorca Saxophone Festival, Kolkata Book Fair, and Shanghai Midi Festival.

He is a proud artist for labels such as Universal Music, Shogun Audio, and Jazz-O-Tech, and has performed and collaborated with international artists including Miroslav Vitous, Dub FX, Billy Cobham, Ike Willis (Frank Zappa), Fabrizio Bosso, Flavio Boltro, Adrian Sherwood, Tullio De Piscopo, the RAI Symphonic Orchestra, Zion Train, and Masia One.

As an educator, he has held workshops and masterclasses at leading international institutions, including the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory (Nepal), Beijing Contemporary Music Academy and Yunnan Arts University (China), Global Music Institute and True School of Music (India), TAFE Institute (Perth, Australia), University of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban, South Africa), and institutions in Mozambique.

He has also performed for Italian Embassies in Beijing, Dakar, and Maputo; Italian Cultural Institutes in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Delhi, Mumbai, Athens, Barcelona, Edinburgh, Tirana, and Pretoria; as well as for the Consulates of Kolkata, Guangzhou, and Perth.
