Charlie DiPuma Biography

Nashville-based saxophonist Charlie DiPuma is known for his magnetic style and unique sound. His childhood on Long Island led to impactful influences ranging from jazz to hip hop. Proximity to New York City afforded him the opportunity to learn directly from some of the jazz greats, including TK Blue, Jerry Weldon, and Paul Evoskevich. Seasons in the local music scenes in D.C. and Philadelphia broadened his approach to hooks and melodies. Charlie effortlessly infuses inspiration from his diverse life experiences into his impressive improvisation for a sound that is all his own.

Charlie's versatility as a saxophonist has led to opportunities to play alongside major artists of various genres like John Legend, Lady A, Erykah Badu, Taj Mahal, Shemekia Copeland, Keb Mo, Eric Gailes, Samantha Fish, Billy Taylor, Deedee Bridgewater, and Herbie Hancock, among others. He has appeared on networks such as Nickelodeon and ESPN, and was honored to perform at The White House. Charlie is currently on tour with blues great Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

In addition to his diverse performance, Charlie has excelled as a high school music educator for 14 years and was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year Award in 2013. He has served as an adjudicator and guest clinician across the country and at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center.
