What Is the JET Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece?
The JET is a bright saxophone mouthpiece with excellent projection, extra easy altissimo register and yet can be played with a warm versatile feel. The JodyJazz JET Alto Saxophone mouthpiece is free blowing, easy and fun to play mouthpiece that captures the full range of tonal qualities of the instrument. The JET has a clean, focused sound with strong projection and cut, while maintaining extraordinary versatility. The JodyJazz JET is excellent for Rock, Funk, Blues, Smooth Jazz and Latin Music, Reggae, Ska, Funk, Hip Hop, Top 40, Duranguense, Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Compa, Tejano, Musica Popular Brasileira, but at the same time we think that many alto sax players will be surprised at how well it plays lead alto in a big band and due to it's versatility, blends nicely with a concert band or saxophone quartet. In other words the JET is a great saxophone mouthpiece that seems to appeal to a very broad variety of players. The thing to remember is that no two players are alike so that it’s all about finding the mouthpiece that responds to your morphology (physical makeup). Morphology means that you have a chamber in your mouth and throat which reacts with the mouthpiece so some people sound better on a small chamber mouthpiece like the JET and some people sound better with a larger chamber piece like the JodyJazz HR*.
Four Goals in Creating the JET Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece
- BRIGHT - To create a bright free blowing mouthpiece that is versatile while having more projection than most mouthpieces.
- ALTISSIMO - To create a mouthpiece that easily produces great altissimo notes. The Altissimo is actually helped by our new shorter facing curve, which is brand new to the JET.
- GREAT PRICE - To make an affordable sax mouthpiece that can be made with the same cutting edge technology as our metal sax mouthpieces, but costs much less than a metal mouthpiece.
- GREAT QUALITY - Each mouthpiece is individually play tested by Jody Espina or one of our professional saxophonists on staff to insure a perfect seal with the reed and proper response throughout the range of the saxophone. We demand and achieve the most rigorous quality control possible.

Special Notes on the JET Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece
Due to the shorter facing curve on the JET a softer reed than you might normally use could be appropriate. This is because the reed actually has less length in which to vibrate. This doesn't hinder playing at all, in fact it makes the JET one of the greatest altissimo pieces of all time. Altissimo still works great with a little softer reed. These are my observations and how I like to play the JET. For example on a JodyJazz DV alto 7 I play a Rico Jazz Select 3M and on the JET I prefer a 3S. The JET is still free-blowing but I think the JET's shorter facing curve makes a difference with the reed. The main message is that anytime you are trying a new mouthpiece two things are very important: finding the right reed for the mouthpiece and making sure that while you try the mouthpiece you are in tune. Don't assume that it will go on the neck in the same place as your previous mouthpiece. In fact the JET pushes on further than many mouthpieces. I love the JET and I hope you will too. Jody, the work you guys are doing with saxophone mouthpieces is fantastic. I recently purchased the Jody Jazz Jet Alto & Jody Jazz Jet 6 Tenor saxophone mouthpieces which are very easy to blow and has excellent projection, and I am totally in love with both! I live in an apartment complex and I don't have to blow hard to produce a sound, amazing! I've played Dukoff, Otto Link, Brilhart, Vandoren V16 for Tenor and more and none of them tops your mouthpieces! Someday I will puchase the DV New York model for my darker sounds.
Thanks Jody, Darrell E. Myles

My name is Ed Beleck and several months back I purchased a Jet mouthpiece from you. I just recently held a jam session at our house for all the neighbors in our neighborhood and this was the first gig I have played out with the mouthpiece since I purchased it and the response was unbelievable!!!
I had numerous people afterwards come over to me and say how much they loved the sound. I know the player makes the sound but at the same time a mouthpiece is huge contributor to that. I just wanted to take a moment and say Thank you for such an awesome Mouthpiece!!! It plays through all the scales with ease and sounds so clear. You definetely have a fan for life. With that said could I please request an autograph Jody? it would truly mean a lot to me. Thank you in advance and look forward to hearing from you. Keep up the great work!!!

Hi Jody. I want to say I bought the Jet 7 Alto mpc a couple weeks ago (after trying that and the Jet 8) and love it. Wish this was out 20 years ago! Great mpc. I had been using a Jumbo Java A55 for the last 15 years. I still can use the same reeds on the jet - jazz selects 3M filed. And I can still sound like me. Great job.Dave Colonna
This latest release from Jody Jazz reveals a much more intelligent mouthpiece, a step-up from its previous incarnation, the Classic. Taking its design technology from the DV and made from a special polycarbonate alloy, the all-new JET sounds whizzy and exciting, and to be fair, it is! It won’t cost the progressing student a fortune to advance on to one of these pieces, but it will give the player a natural increase in volume, but without an increase in resistance. The tone is vibrant and extremely responsive – it is baffled sufficiently to give the sound a brightness and a lift at a medium airflow or beyond. If you’re looking to get into pop gigs/fusion stuff/rock n roll this piece should be considered – it won’t cost you as much as a Dukoff but it most likely is more consistently made!!Jim Cheek - Director www.sax.co.uk

"I just wanted to tell you that I have been playing the Jet for 2 days now and I am simply floored. It is giving me the exact sound that I have been searching for for years. The middle register and low notes are beautify clean and the altissimo, my God, simply incredible. Thanks for creating this!"Earnest Walker Jr
"Hey man! Just wanted to let ya know I got those JETs, WOW! I had gigs all weekend and nuthin's better than a trial by fire right? The 6 was too small, the 7 perfect so off we went, man I gotta say this is without question THE best alto piece for what I do that I've played in prolly 40 yrs. Thing played soo incredible right off the bat, I almost had to take myself home n' have my way with me I sounded so good! On the mic, it's a big, fat juicy sound, in tune, perfect blend of warmth with edge. So far I've taken it up to altissimo E(E4) but I suspect it'll pop out F4,G4 and maybe A4. I hate playin' up that high cause none of the men can have kids after that but it'll be interesting to see just how high it goes. Anyway those are my initial impressions, needless to say the 7 ain't goin' nowhere!"Paul Perez
